GTO Regeneration: Next-gen Pontiac muscle car reportedly will hit market in '08
BOB GRITZINGER
Posted Date: 8/3/05

What you see in this illustration is a fairly close rendition of what we can expect when the next-generation Pontiac GTO hits the market in 2008. We say “fairly close” because we’ve seen the super-secret spy photos upon which it is based, and the actual shots show a sleeker, wider, lower and, frankly, far more appealing car.

That’s the good news.

The bad news is General Motors’ Aussie division Holden reportedly may not start cranking out these future Goats until 2008, a full two years after production ceases on the 2006 Holden Monaro-based GTO.

One more tidbit: It’s not shown here, but we hear GM is considering doing this GTO as a four-door coupe, using rear-hinged rear-access doors without visible handles.

um....looks like a galant from the front. wheres the standard pontiac grills? i do like some of the styling, like those that are from the RX8, but i say it needs much much much more work.

any word on what the chassis will be since the zeta is cancelled?

I think that pic has already been debunct as being an old sketch that was supposed to become the current GTO. It's obviously based on the current Monaro (same general lines) and if it was supposed to represent the next gen, with the four doors, why wouldn't they make the concept with four doors?

this was posted on gminsidenews, no on there has said the drawing is old yet. But anything is possible.

I'm not sure car audio dave what platform it will be on they have only said this "The next-generation GTO will come from a new global family of rear-wheel-drive cars, Pontiac spokesman Jim Hopson said"

hmmm still interesting, but ill be mad if this pic represents what the GTO will become.

yea, they tried too much to copy the old front end and then made it all slanty and dumb looking, the result of which is a horrible cross between the mirage and a monaro... i think im gonna be sick. get rid of the goat, its too legendary to have its name bastardized... They need to focus on making the GTO the Pontiac Monaro and then speeding up production on the Pontiac Solstice. GM has 2 very good cars if they play their cards right.

I like it better than the current GTO. I still like the GTO as it is anyway.

That thing is fugly!!

I kinda like the current design, pretty simple. But it does look too much like the Monaro.

Looks like an angry Galant that needs rhinoplasty.

You're all wrong. It's not a galant. Get the old photos of the orange concept from years ago and merge it with the current mustang. They are ripping off ford with the body lines. It won't fly.

thats not the first time. look at the 99+ GA spoiler...looks just like the 94-98 mustang spoiler, and the SCT spoiler is an exact copy of the 01+ mustang spoiler (thats whats on my car, its way cheaper).

I guess GM feels like "if you cant beat em, copy em."

The photoshopped picture is a redering of the concept built in 1998 and is in no way shape or form to be the next GTO.

Sorry guys, GM doesn't release new model info that fast. Regarind the GTO or otherwise.

wwait, the 01 mustang spoiler is identical to the sc/t one? oh man, that is not cool, i have never even noticed that. that makes me want to commit numerous accounts of arsonry.

Hey dave, off topic but did the pony spoiler bolt right up? or did you have to drill new mounting holes?

two of the bolts lined up, but the other two had to be drilled. if i did it over again id move it back about an inch to allow the installation of a power antenna.

i think u either took that pic in the morning and theres condensation on ur trunk and spoiler, or ur paints screwd up

i think that GTO would look better if it didnt have a nose

Considering the first SC/T concept came out in '99 that would make the Mustang one the copy.

except the original SC/T spoiler was different...it wasnt until the production SC/T that it looked like the mustang one. :D
