Hi just wanted to know if any one has had this problem.

I have a 1996 grand am 2.4 litre my oil light is on .The car still runs have lots of oil .Is it my pressure switch or the pump.
Any one know the location of the pressure switch it is only $10 should I replace that first. What about the oil pump ?

Thanks Mike

Is the motor making a ticking noise? It could either be the switch or a bearing or oil pump could be on its way out

Bump. (not hijacking)

Where is the switch located? My oil light isn't on..but I do have the ticking noise. To be honest...as faint as it is...it bugs the hell outta me.

yeah .. im not hijacking either.. but why is there two oil lights? One looks like an oil can on the right side of the cluster and one just says "oil" on the left... I dont get it.

Low oil level and low oil pressure ...

The oil can is oil pressure light...basically when it gets below 5psi or so it comes on. If it does...you're pretty much screwed. The other one I think is the oil level.

I'm not positive about the actual light label on the 96-98 cluster, but if we are speaking of the oil level light (it's "check oil" on 92-95 cluster) than it's very likely the problem is the level switch in the bottom of the pan. It's a very common part to fail on the Quad 4/TC engines... both of mine are bad.
