Well, if you guys remember reading my previous thread about how I changed my rotors and brake pads, how when I would come to a stop in the car (slowing down... at low speeds.. say to a stop light)..it would make a metallic, rhythmic "clunk, clunk, clunk" sound. Well.. yesterday I took my car to the dealership to get the LIM gaskets replaced because they were weeping causing the engine case area to look darker because of weeped oil. I mentioned how the brakes were clunking.. and it turned out it was the wheel bearing hub assembly on my front left driver side. So.. now its fixed, no more clunk. Now I don't feel like a total jackass for having worked on my own car... and thinking it was my fault.. cause I did the brakes then the noise appeared about 2 or 3 weeks afterwards... (I don't drive much over the summer.. so it was low mileage on the new brakes)
Just FYI, the clunk ONLY happened as you were slowing down to a stop at low speeds... it didn't do it while driving say 70 on the high way just slowing down a tad, ONLY when coming to a stop.. say going 30.. and you keep pressure on the pedal slowing down. It did not make clunking noises say... turning left or right, only as you brake. that's an update! oh yeah.. and it was all fixed under warantee :P :D So it had nothing to do with the brakes. First time I've ever heard of bad bearing assemblies clunking... I just thought they only made grinding/squealing sounds when they were going bad.
