When the car goes under a heavy load eg up a hill the engine shudders and the service engine light blinks a half dozen times and then comes on solid. any clue to what is causing this problem, thanks

Normally a blinking SES indicates a misfire. If the engine is misfiring under a load it could be spark plug related or fuel system related. You need to start by getting the codes read and see which codes are latched. From there it can be troubleshot better. When was you last major tune up?

I imagine is probably a spark plug, I just had the fuel system done, had the orings and all that stuff replaced, I'll have to get a loan of my friends code reader

Yeah, that is the best place to start.

I had the same problem once and the problem was one of my spark plug wires came off. Check to make sure they are all pushed on all the way.

Nope, a dirty fuel filter was the problem!
