CHERRY HILL, N.J., July 21, 2005 – Subaru of America, Inc., America’s all-wheel drive leader, has restyled its Impreza line for 2006 and in addition given the all-conquering 300-horsepower WRX STI model several performance enhancements. On the safety front, all Impreza models gain the new dualstage Subaru Advanced Airbag System.
Following an interior redesign for 2005, all Impreza models have been restyled for 2006 to reflect the new brand identity. The new Subaru signature front-end design for Impreza features a three-section mesh-type grill inspired by the company’s aircraft heritage, plus boldly styled headlights with smoke-tinted lenses. All 2006 Impreza models are also identified by a new tail lamp cluster design.
The 2006 WRX STI is also distinguished by the lower-profile hood scoop from the standard WRX to aid forward visibility. Daytime running lights (DRL) are added to the safety roster to make the WRX STI more visible to other drivers. A new roof vane spoiler, inspired by the Impreza World Rally Championship competition car, contributes to stability at track speeds and reinforces the car’s highperformance
attitude.
The WRX STI received several significant chassis performance enhancements for 2005, including wider wheels. For 2006, the addition of a steering sensor input to the DCCD All-Wheel Drive system enhances power distribution response by more accurately relaying the car’s cornering situation.
The WRX STI is based on the Impreza WRX platform but is completely re-engineered to provide even higher levels of acceleration, handling and braking performance that challenge the world’s best sports cars. In its first year, the WRX STI won Road & Track magazine’s “Best Car 2004” Reader’s Choice Award, edging out several dedicated(?) sports cars, including the Porsche® 911® GT3.
The Impreza WRX STI is powered by a turbocharged and intercooled 2.5-liter DOHC boxer engine producing 300 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 300 lb-ft. of peak torque at 4,000 rpm. Teamed exclusively to a 6-speed manual transmission, the engine can propel the WRX STI from zero-to-60 mph in under five seconds. Power is transferred to all four wheels by a sophisticated Subaru Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system with Driver Controlled Center Differential (DCCD) to optimize performance in all conditions.

It's got 300hp...
Why then.. Are all the people from my old Neon site who have SRT 4's saying that stock for stock.. The SRT 4's walk the STi's..
:hmmm:

Who claimed they were America's awd leader??? it's Japan's or most likely the worlds. They can say Suburu America all they want, still don't make them American. Anyways, still impressive. They (Suburu) are one of the few imports I like because of thier dedication to awd.

All I know is the srt 4 can't keep up with the sti.
Srt 4 comes with turbocharged and intercooled 2.4-liter double overhead camshaft (DOHC) 16-valve 4-cylinder engine produces an impressive 230 horsepower and 250 lb-ft of torque.
Kicks - is your moms car supercharged, if so, how can your car smoke it?

Subaru's new corporate grill is ugly. The put it on the Tribeca and it was ugly, on the WRX it's hideous. Then again the WRX has always been an ugly car. Nice yes, pretty no.

He said its a WRX so its turbocharged. I still dont see how he can "smoke it" unless its an auto, and he has a good number of mods.

Indeed.l but i think even a n/a WRX would beat a grand am, unless it was a 3400 with some mods, i think that would be close.

No, the WRX has a turboed boxer 4 cylinder engine.

See above and below.
There is no N/A WRX. There is the Impreza 2.5L RS with a 2.5L N/A motor that makes like 165hp, then theres the Impreza WRX with a turboed 2.0L engine that makes 227hp, then the Impreza WRX STI with the tubroed 2.5L that makes 300hp

The looked great this last time. The bug eyes weren't bad but that grille needs to go.

Your correct Urweak.
A "N/A WRX" is called a Impreza. lol
I loved the old 2.5RS's but they werent fast enough for me to care much for them, that was before the WRX made its way to America.

Because they don't know the difference between a 217hp WRX and a 300hp WRX STi.

I used to own a '86 GL and that thing took a arse whooping too.
I would beat the snot out of it, airborn, off road, mud, sand, snow your name. Just about every day Id rail it off roa dfor a bit and you could feel the ground flexing the floorpans and it still kept going.
I'd buy a Subaru in a heartbeat.

ohh ok, The RS has a 2.5 n/a, the WRX has a 2.0 Turbo, and the STi has 2.5 Turbo, thought the new grills were kinda cool

wow, im glad some one straightened out this thread. I was getting sick to my stomache reading about NA WRXs.
These subaru's (and their forced inductioin counterparts..SRT4, Cobalt SS, Evo) are the cars of our era. I realy think they will be the ones that kids look back at in 30 years and say "i wish i was around when they made...." like i do with the muscle cars
P.S. - no chance that a normal GA could smoke a WRX. It would need lots of money in upgrades.

I like the new headlights, but the center portion of the grill sucks. It's the area inside the pieces that go up around the Suburu badge that bother me most. It doesn't look complete or something, I dunno, but it makes me scratch my head. I sat in a WRX just for giggles once, and I couldn't fit in it very well at all, that'd be the main reason I wouldn't buy one.
The Tribeca looks worse though.
Hey kicks, is that by any chance just an Impreza and not a WRX?

:agree:
though I have nothing against them, I just don't want them to be the symbol of an era.
It might be even worse then that. We might be craving for the days of real cars and not hybrids, depending on how high gas goes someday.

Ditto, and dont worry Cory, it won't.
There will look at things like the 500hp ZO6, and SRT10 an dsay things like that, not at pocket rocket four bangers.
But then again I dont for see any regression in the automotive industry anyhow.
We know gas is getting expensive and most automakers are tackling that head on and stiill giving us more power and better preformance.

I see what you saying, but there arent going to be many of those around. I lust for a Yenko Camaro, but if i own some old muscle, it will be a 350 SS or somethin.
I know they are not the best that we have to offer today, but they are afordable fun and our generation is the first to put get big horses out of FI fourbangers and put it through the ground through the front, or all wheels.
