I'm hoping for a GT but there are few around here to buy.

There is one here...a Silver 2001 GAGT with 65,000kms on it.

It has no warranty on it. Is it worth getting an extended warranty on it? It's about $1400CDN for 2 years/40,000kms warranty.

That would cover the car till it reaches atleast 100,000kms

Any advice on buying one?
The sale-people keep trying to get me to buy an Alero...saying it's the same as a GA. :roll2:

The Alero is the same chassis as the GA SE. Not the same as the GA GT. The GT has 4 wheel ABS disk brakes and independent rear suspension.

The Aleros I saw had 4-wheel discs.

Alero's are okay. They are more elegant than GA's. V6 Alero is mechanically same as V6 GA SE. GA GT is sportier than both. Alero has nice things like shift indicator on the cluster.

pfft only old people drive oldsmobiles, well -- actually, now no one drives them, they are dead, hahaha! YES!

well, anyway, id say get the extended warranty if you can splurge for it, the LIM leak and the window motor failure would both be things that are about to happen if thye havent already, and that would just about cover the 1400$$ you spent on the warranty, id say go for it, right around 100K is when GM cars start to fall apart.

oook, just noticed you are canadian and you measure in kms.. crazy canucks. Anyway, Id stil go for it even though 100km is still very new.

Thank you!! :) ... for interest sake though, the only difference between a SE and a GT suspension are the sway bars, strut valves, rear springs and rear disc brakes but on an Alero, the rear discs are the same as the GT :)

I was pretty set on a GAGT any way...just wondering about the Alero is all.

The Alero probably has the SE gear ratio too. I don't mind an SE1 Grand Am...I find newer ones all over the place...but they aren't ever the color I want. I'd perfer a newer GAGT but all I can find is a '01

I'll keep looking. ;) But It's hard when all my J-Body friends tell me I'm making a big mistake going into payments and a new car when I could just drop a 3400 in my Sunbird...but whats the use of a 14 second car if everything else on it breaks down. Right? :P

Though...I sat in that '01 GAGT...Adjusted the steering wheel...took one look around...(power everything, sunroof) I wanted it right then. ("wanna take it for a test drive?" asks the salesman. "ahhhhh...no. Thanks. I don't want to buy anything today." I reply.)

I live in ottawa and i had a problem finding a GAGT as well. I wanted a black gt with a sunroof, and this was very rare in ontario. I called every GM dealer in southern ontario with out any luck. Finaly i whent into a local dealer and they said they would go to the auction (where they get their used cars from anyways) and they would find one for me. The aution is in Montreal and i guess all the dealers have a list of what is going to be going through each week. I was able to sit down with the salesman and tell him exactly what i wanted to have on the car, and how much i wanted to pay. We wrote up a bill of sale and everything conditional on them finding the exact car i wanted. They then whent to auction every week and bid on any cars that were what i wanted untill one sold for the price i wanted to pay. It only took 3 weeks if i remember correctly. I thought this was a good way to get the car i wanted at the price i wanted to pay. I ended up with a VERY clean GAGT, with great paint, no dents, with the options, KM, and @ the price i wanted. It was like ordering at a restaurant.
