1996 grand am 3100 v6. Any other things besides a blown head gasket that would make water get into the oil? the car sometimes runs hot,and there is also an external water leak. I haven't had the chance to crawl around under it yet to pinpoint where the water is leaking from, but it appears to be the water pump leaking from looking at the top.this is my mom's car,and she lives 15 miles from me and works nights,so I don't see it much. the oil is milky and overfull,so my guess would be it is getting water in it from somwhere. i know a compression test may tell me if it is a head gasket, but are there other tests I can do before I tear into the head gasket job? how about some pointers on head gasket replacement? is this in an average mechanic's ability? I have never done a head gasket job on anything, let alone something this new. any online write ups to give me some pointers? thanks for any and all help given,my mom doesn't have the money to pay a mechanic to do the job. I told her I would check into and let her know if it was above my ability or not........thanks,Ben
