View Full Version : How do you view the celica?

I called it a chick car in another thread, and someone disagreed with me. Now everyone I know in real life thinks of it as a chick car, i know lots of chicks that want one, not a single guy. The car is kinda small, better fit for a chick, stuff like that, but i'm just curious how others view it.

Neutral. I guess I have never felt ANY car was specifically a chick or guys car.

Ishan

theres very few I actually classify as either, this just happens to be one of them.

i think it is neutral (like most cars) just depends on how its kept and the "personalization" that goes with it. except saturns. saturn=chick car. celica's = sweet cars. not meant for any particular perosn. i think it was more aimed for guys though

Chick car is a strong phrase. I don't wanna start assigning terms like guy car or chick car. That said, I don't see any masculine (sp?) appeal to them. That's just me though. When I look at my GA, I see bold and bulging lines and fenders, and strong character lines. Same for my Firebird, and same for the 97-03 Grand Prixs. There's something in their lines and shapes that speaks to me. The Celica has none of that for me, which at best makes it neutral. I kind of lump it into the same catagory as the new VW Beetle. Their kind of cute cars, and I do see mostly women driving them both, and I wouldn't drive either (though I did drive a Beetle my friend had as a loaner, and I was very disturbed by that car, a la the vase on the dash..) personally. Cars like Camry's, Accords, Civics and Corollas are entirely neutral to me though.

There's some really ricey Celicas that run around here, and I personally kind of snicker at them, because they look kind of toy like, big Hotwheel design or something. But hey, that's me, and how I feel. :)

The (new) Beetle is definitely a chic's car. Any car that has a flower-holder in it, off the dash or whatever. :roll2: While I was driving down the 401 today, I actually saw a guy driving a Beetle (with a flower inside proudly displayed). Thankfully, a chic was sitting beside him. I'm just going to have to assume that it was her car and her flower! :)

Definetly not a guy car, nor a girl car, I know a girl that owns one, but I've also seen many that were just riced out with guys driving them.

As soon as I saw the thread title, I thought "chick car."

Of course, with modification, ANY car can be transformed into a chick car or a guy's car.

I voted chick car still tho, becuz stock, it def looks like a chick's car - each gen too.

Celica is a very lame chick car.

I had the unfortunate experience of driving one for a week, and let me tell you those ares are J-U-N-K.

Italic, hard to read orange fonts for the gauges yet the rest of the dash back lighting is green??

Piss poor accleration, terrible understeer, no head room, no leg room, improper steering wheel to shifter placement, pooor radio palcement, very bad ergonomics, crappy mirrors (rear one was blocked by the deck lid adn spoiler, side veiw ones had 1/3rd of them blocked by the buldging rear quarter panels.

I could go on and on.

My mother owned a couple chick cars like a '89 Ford Probe GL, a '93 Ford Probe SE, and a '03 Eclipse GT and none of those were nearly as bad as the POS celica, I'd rather own a SOHC four door civic than a celica.

Other 'chick cars to note',
Celica, Couger, Eclipse, Lazer, Talons, Probe, Tiberon, Beetle, Avenger, Sebring, V6 Mustangs, Camaros and Firebirds.
Im sure I could think of more but it's late.

A beetle can be a guys car.. providing its black, and prefirably a convertible.

A Miata, and a cabrio.. definate girls cars.

Those are my thoughts as well, Ray. Yet another stupid label.

Now what would a lot of those guys think if a 'chick' drove a mint condtion 1970 Chevelle SS 454 LS6 with 4.56 gears and a Muncie M22 tranny?

I think that the insecure guys would be scared off because they’re looking for a submissive woman they can dominate and hide their feelings of feel of inadequately.

This girl in my town has a Sunset Orange TA WS6. I met her in town the first time by sitting at a light and her pulling up. She gave me a good rev and I knew I had to stop and talk to her. She had Mac long tube headers, Borla pipes with an SLP loudmouth muffler and Borla tips, but she was going to ditch that setup for a more "mature" sounding Corsa she said. The car was also lowered and inch and some. Throw in the M6 transmission, and that was one sinister sounding car. :D

Not always the case that women don't have TA's, but it's honestly way more men.

Funny because my wife, my mother and several other females I know say these same vehicles are 'girlie cars'.
I guess that ruins your whole stereotype.

Because the Grand Am isn't trying to be something it's not. It's designed, marketed and sold as a Sporty family sedan. Cars like the Eclipse, and Tib want people to accept them as 'Sports cars' but the only people to think they are real sports cars are little high school girls and thier trendy wannabe male counter parts.

Cars that 'look' the part but can't walk the walk.

Ok you say a Beetle can be a guys car but a Miata can't?

I see the Miata as a older person's car, male or female. But the sad thing is Miata's are known for tearing up SCCA events, yet when was the last time a Beetle was spotted anywhere near a track? (and chain that V8 powered drag car isn't what Im talking about. lol)

IMO the Miata isn't designed to be something it's not. It was build to be a small roadster, which it more or less is. Just like the MG, Triumphs, Austin Healys, Karmin Gina, etc were back in the 60s.

A girls car in my definition would be a car that is designed to appear to be something its not and typically under powered. Looks coming before actual function or performance. A car designed for people of smaller stature, a car designed focused on personal features like a make up mirror, cup holders and cell phone charge before they ever think about proper steering wheel to shifter placement. Not to mention pedel to steering wheel placement. Etc.

Because after all, women and men are the exact same right? I mean, theres no difference, ya know, it's not like their brains are wired differently or anything, i mean c'mon, pull down your pants, it's all the same right? face it man, men and women DO have differences, their brains ARE wired differently, so yes, a certent type of car can be more appealing to a female then a male, and vice versa, if your gonna deny that, then well.. you gotta go start talking to some people.

:agree:

Hey when a vehicle has balkls its no denying its gender. lol
Just because a female drives a guys car doesn't make it a 'girlie car', just as if a guy driving a 'girlie car' doesn't make it a 'man's car'.

IMO, in most cases, Chick car = Jetta, Golf, New Beetle, Del Sol, Prelude, Civic, Wrangler, Mustang, Ranger, Celica, and finally Corolla.

I'm sure there's many many cases of any one of the above cars being modified to extreme measures and becoming a respectable 'masculine car, but in their stock form, what else do you see chicks driving?

:???: Wild how this suddenly turned into a rice hating thread... :roll2:

And I think the elders own most of the muscle cars because they simply can afford them, when most young people cannot yet. If you can afford a C6 Corvette at 20, then you're moving right along, but most can't. By the time you're 50, kids are probably out of the house, and you've got a budget and a career going, you can. Not to mention your insurance has stabilized into a nice monthyl payment as long as you have a decent record. Where I've been paying 1200+ a year for my GA, which is better then when I first got a car, and paid 1500+.

i know in louisiana i could get that insurance on my 67 chevy c-10 but the only problem is you cannot drive them you have to trailer them where ever you are going and you can only drive them in parades. it is called antique insurance (pointless). but because i drove mine almost 500 miles a week i was paying 2700 a year for a 67 chevy truck. But LA insurance is stupid because most LA people cannot drive (they should make the driving test more strenious(sp) so more people will fail)

When I was a kid my old man had a 1988 Celica GTS with 4 Wheel dirve. Off the line there was almost nothing but once the turbo spooled up the car took off like a shot. The 4 wheel drive was nice because he could bring it sideways around corners and keep control of it. However the car was small, maintenance was retardedly expensive, and it just wasn't big enough to be practical.

I
