When it's in the "max upper vents" position, it is only A/C and it recycles the air in the cabin. It's the best way to cool your car. In any other position you must push the A/C button to activate the A/C, or else it just blows outside air.

Also useful for passing cow farms and/or those random "city stenches"... gotta be quick before the smell infiltrates tho. ;)

I've always been curious about that with the max button.. i hit it.. it gets really cold.. i turn it off.. gets warm.. sitting there staring at it, like.. you MUST turn the ac on!

My "Upper & Lower" position doesn't work. It stays the same as the position you entered it from.

A/C is on in all positions when the A/C light is on. "Max" position recycles inside air and is the most efficient.

A/C automatically comes on when the knob is in the "Window Vent/ Defrost" position to remove moisture in the winter.

Are the floor vents only used for heat or can the a/c come out of this vent too?

AC can come out of the floor also if wanted.

My AC is always on MAX :)

yup,max is basically an extra speed on the blower that helps circulate the air quicker and cools the car faster.

Yes. Push the "AC" button on, rotate temp knob to cold and choose the setting as in the pic you posted... the AC will come out the floor vents and dash vents.

Actually it doesn't have to do with blower speed. The inside air (already colder) is being recirculated into the evaporator and is chilled even more. The slight change in the speed of the air coming out of the vents is a side effect of the air taking a different route within the HVAC ducting.
