The ZL1 Camaro was about the baddest Camaro one could buy. It was a COPO (Central Office Production Order) package.
All aluminum 427cid motor was built and packaged in a plain jane Camaro for the soul purpose to drag race. GM need to build 50 of them to allow them to compete with NHRA super stock class but GM built a total of 69 of them. Few of them were purchased with 850cfm Holley carbs, but Holley couldn't build enough so not many recieved them special carburation. IIRC most all were M22 Munci trannies with 4.88:1 gears out back.

The ZL1 Camaro was only built in 1969. Chevy rated them at a gross 430hp but actually made nubers up in the 500hp range.

That car is amazing, I'd never buy one though, because I know for a fact if I had that car, it wouldn't leave my garage ever, except to maybe take pics of it and wash it. Other than that I'd be too scared of something happening to it. It will make an amazing addition to someone's collection though, that's for sure!

I agree there are far better lookign cars like a '69 TA convertable.

But I hate owning a vehicle that every Joe Wannabe can run out and purchase and why I totally LOVE rare and different vehicles no even if they are an ugly shade of green.

I agree, my all time dream machine is a '69 Trans Am convertable (only 8 built). If I owned a real one I would just take it to show and drive it once a week. But what I would reall ylike to do is use a Firebird 400 Convertalbe and build a clone with a LS2/T56 combo in place of the 400/M22 along with other modern items.
