Well, I was on my way to move to Indiana from Minnesota when a young idiotic girl came into my lane without looking or signalling in Madison, Wisconsin. I had to pull hard to get out of the way, and I realized it right away that it was gonna be that or crash, but I lost control and went into a concrete barrier at 70 mph.

The chick didn't even stop, and my insurance company said from an argument standpoint, I should have let her hit me to prove she did anything anyways. I also realize that I over corrected but I don't think anthing short of that would have moved me in time, she was coming over really fast.

I escaped totally unharmed, but my car is totally toast. I will probably be walking for a while because my insurance will be ridiculous for a couple months until I turn 25 here coming up in December.

I don't know if I will get another GA. I loved it when it was running, but for a car with only 40,000 something miles on it, it sure had a lot go wrong. I sunk $800 into a fuel pump, nearly $1000 into miscellaneous electrical glitches, it was already starting very hard, and had more little glitches that would have been more $$ in the near future to fix. I did not beat that car up either, it was babied like a child. Regular synth. oil changes, never pushed my luck with regular maint. or anything.

I'll let you know what I get, but I'll be shopping around. On the plus side, I only paid $7500 bucks for my GT with 40K on it, and I'm getting almost 12,000 back from the ins. company, so I will come out ahead.

I know you are all GA loyalists, but if you had to buy something else that was sporty and had at least a V6 in it slightly used, what are some other vehicles you would look at. I was checkin out Eclipse GT's and maybe even a GP GTP?

The Stratus R/T coupes are pretty nice in my opinion.

A little know fact about getting money for a totaled car (at least in NY) -> They're supposed to compensate you for tax that you will have to pay on your replacement.

My company lumped in together so you think that you are getting more for the car.

She had to have been from Illinois.

But ah, I'd agree with Kanonen80 about the R/T. My bro has one and it's an awesome car.

Definately get an Eclipse GS-T, or GSX, do NOT get a GS/RS they are pooches. Also I'd look at the 95-99 ones with the 2.0L turbo. Those things haul, with about 210hp stock, and a few bolt ons/free mods get you to 300@ the wheels. That includes upping the boost to about 18psi with stock engine/turbo.

Like I said before, I'd go with a 95-99 Eclipse GS-T, or GSX, and run 12's/11's fairly easily.

Dude that sucks man, she must of been Jersey-Born :) Out of all the years of the Eclipse, I still think '97 looked the best, and I miss my '97 GS-X. But, at the same time with 12k commin to you, you can probably get a GTP with a little left over to mod as well. Let us all know what happens with this man.

Well, I have a while to pick my new ride, because since my ins. is eating the cost my rates are going up(did I mention that) so as a poor grad student I need to wait till I'm 25 and it goes down, which isn't until December.

Also, I had never really considered this, but I recently took a ride in a Tiburon GT for the first time. It was the 6speed manual but I would get the automatic(I like manuals, but I drive in traffic a lot and I get sick of it).

Eclipse's are nice, like you said, but holy crap are the repair costs high for them! I would be on the street if it broke down a lot.

We'll see, I might stil end up in another Grand Am.

Ahh that's a shame... Too bad. I'm sorry I missed this thread!

I do agree with the Stratus's, nice looking cars. The new Mustangs are pretty sweet too!

Good luck with everything.

I wouldn't drive a Mitsubishi if someone gave it to me. Those cars have the worst reputations for lemons period! Customer service is lacking also. I have know a few people that have bought Eclipses and they were nothing but a nightmare.
