View Full Version : Group Buy: C/F SD Hood

Bouchie11982

I was talkign to Sikmindz over at GAGT.com and Cerious Performance will do a group buy for a carbon fiber SD Hood next spring ONLY if the demand is high enough, in other words, 10 people need to be serious about this buy. SikMindz:As of right now, general interest for a new hood is for an SD style hood, as opposed to the SC/T one. But I'm sure they can cater to whatever we need. The only problem is getting ~10 people to pony up and seiously commit to buying the hood. Price expected will most likely be $600-699 and less if the more buyers you can get, just like the SC/T CF hood. Sound good?? lets get this group buy on a GO!!

Do you have a photo??

SikMindz

Umm...it'll look like the SD hood in CF. Check PFYC.com I guess or a search should yield a plethora of pics.

I actually already have one. I would only be interested in trading mine for one. So in other words, if someone purchased it but really wanted the SCT one, then I would be up for a trade. I know its a long shot but oh well.

So i guess that means only 5 but I think www.grandamgt.com has more people that are interested. Maybe the 5 more you need. :)

I just emailed Cerious about the hood and it's very doable. I'll let all the forums know ASAP about specifics when I hear back.

I don't have it yet. I would only consider a trade for a CF sd hood really. I am getting the SCT CF hood (hopefully) this friday :)

SikMindz

Here's the latest everyone:

5-10 people would be required, if you could have them put down a $100 refundable deposit that would speed up the process, for a large part like a hood. 20% down of the retail value on any other parts. The smaller parts, well if we could locate the parts quickly, we can begin molding right away, and if we get the deposits we can get more hoods ready before Jan/Feb hopefully.

So yes...PLEASE PM me if you are serious about getting the CF SD hood done and I will forward you to the right contacts!

SikMindz , u have a PM

i need a pm of cost and how long is this open for, i would be willing to join in about a month

tido_29
08-31-2005, 09:36 PM
Brian- they would need a 100 dollar diposit (this of course is 100% refundable). My guess is that when all 5+ people are ready and SURE.. they will collect the money.

The hoods are not really schedule for "making" until Jan/Feb. I think if they get the money (meaning down payment from 5+ members sooner) then they can move up the production date. But for right now.. Jan/Feb is the estamated time of production. Again- this is only if people are still interested.

Bouchie11982
08-31-2005, 09:40 PM
ok so who is serious about this? so far we have:

Tido is close.

Like I mentioned earlier, I was told that there is a 2-month lead time on carbon fiber sheets this size. Say they order next week...the raw CF wont be in till about the end of October-November. Figure about a month for production and you're in December already.

I guess Cerious just assumed that it would take about a month or so to get everything setup. Which would put us in Jan/Feb as stated...

I'll hook up with Cerious tomorrow via email and see if they'll order the CF now so at least they can recreate the SC/T CF hoods when it arrives.

09-01-2005, 09:02 PM

They can make anything we want as long as there is enough interest. But more importantly, are you really going to put a deposit down and buy it in the end?

Post up and see what your year GA guys say. Then get back at me...

Here's the latest:

GB is okayed and hoods are on order. As of now Cerious is only going to make 10 CF SD hoods and 5 CF SC/T hoods. For those that have the money in hand (the 5 of you have been constanly posting) please either PayPal sales@ceriousperformance.com with a note with your name, email and phone contacts and that you want to deposit the money for the "Grand Am Carbon Fiber SD Hood." Or you can call (860)896-1746 ask for Will if you would like to pay by credit card.

If you are interested in getting the SD hood for sure, I would definitely put your money down ASAP! It is refundable and fact of the matter is, the CF SC/T hoods sold out in less than a week. Don't be left out because like the CF SC/T hoods these are all made to order and will only be made in batches.

Jackel169
09-12-2005, 01:11 PM
i love that hood... it is sik.... how much is the deposit?

Bouchie11982
09-12-2005, 01:34 PM
could we use paypal for the deposit and then send a check or money order after wards of teh rest of te amount for the hood?

SikMindz
09-12-2005, 01:49 PM
Yes. You can PayPal sales@ceriousperformance.com like described above. Once the hoods get in the rest of the price will be needed as expected. I don't think they car how it gets to them as long as it gets there right?

Jackel- the deposit is $100 refundable. By the way, where in CA are you from? We have a few meets coming up here in Cali and would love to see some new members out! PM me or check the West Coast section

Bouchie11982

Katie, Katie, Katie. Of all people I would think you would have read my last post the closest. Hheheh...just messin' with ya. Like it says, put down that it's for the SD GB in the notes if you're doing it by PayPal and if you really want to be thorough send sales@ceriousperformance.com and email saying that you send the money and give them your full name, etc.

SCP pays for half of my stuff... I just had to write to the company and let them know all the stuff i want to do to my ride and they picked me... there's really nothing special about my car ... but i took the time to write them and call so they sponsered me....... as far as i know they do work with modified and turbo mag.... if i do enough work they come to me and i get paid for any photo taken... so it's a pretty good deal.. i just had to pay 79.00 to pay legal fees for my contract.....

SikMindz
09-19-2005, 10:53 AM
C'mon Katie. Like said in the orig. post. Cost will be $600 + S&H right? The whole point of a deposit is to put that money toward the purchase.

It's just a form of collateral for the company. That way even if someone decided to back out or whatever, they hood wasn't made for no reason, they atleast have the 100 dollars.

When it comes time to pay the actual price of the hood, you're 100 dollars should already be credited towards the hood so I don't think you have to worry :D

ARGH! Please read this thread before responding!

Product: Carbon fiber SD Hood
Manufacturer: Cerious Performance
Cost: $100 deposit toward final price of $600 + S&H
ETA: December or mid-January shipped

Only 10 will be made in this first batch. PayPal sales@ceriousperformance.com with "Grand Am Carbon Fiber SD Hood Group Buy" in the notes or you can call (860)896-1746 ask for Will if you would like to pay by credit card.

This hood will only be offered in carbon fiber. I believe 3-4 are already spoken for. A second batch may or may not be made, so be proactive and get it now!

There isn't an *******- just a newbie who can't read. :roll2: Don't act smug with me. *cough* If you were more informed or actually read from beginning to the end you would realize two things:

1) This group buy is for a CARBON FIBER SD hood. Look at the title.

2) You would also realize that it's a replica of a fiberglass version of the SD hood offered on www.pfyc.com. That and as the title states:

GROUP BUY: C/F SD Hood

Call me an ******* if you wish but it only entitles me to call you illiterate.

Or a CF trunk from GTP International. Or generated interested for the concept to the RKSport kit via the American Tuner GA. And the list goes on...Hell, I could've told Cerious to just leave the price at $700 + S&H for you all. Don't come at me like I'm a dickhead...this is the 4th time my car is being redone 'cause I've been out here getting parts done for the community for the last 2-3 years. ok well they are being made now and the ETA is mid december/january. you'd see that if u read the whoel thread but i understand if u didnt read all 6 pages :) i do the same :) but yea as for the hood Lynn, im still unsure of wha ti want to do because the fading will look backwards when the base is black and the top os silver. when i was the dark to fade into the black.

BTW Lynn, you have a cardomain or any site that has more pics of ur car??? id liek to check it out :)

Actually as per the original posts ETA is Jan/Feb. The only reason why I may have mentioned it could be sooner was if the group buy went through more quickly. However, because it took about 3+ weeks to get the definite 5 deposits in, scheduling is pushed back to normal.

gunblaze- the hood you are looking for is called the "Warbird" hood for the GA. IIRC, www.usexotics.com makes them. However, if you could start a new thread (if you're not interested in the Cerious hood) that would be great and help this thread stay on topic. Thanks.

Hey Bouchie I did read the part that stated when they would be done. I was just wondering if they might possably be done sooner because I can't wait until Dec/Jan to get my car back from haveing the body work done. thats all Unfortunatly I don't know how to do the whole domain name page or home page thing so the only way I could show you pics of my car would be via email.
And Sikmindz Sorry I strayed from the topic but I am interested in this hood if I can't find The Warbird hood. PS thanks for the info in regards to that.

As stated amidst these 7 pages, per the original deadlines the hoods are expected to be shipped to the customers in Jan/Feb. Sorry about that Lynn...I couldn't seem to locate a link to the company that made the Warbird hood and only know that its name was US Exotics. You may want to email/PM users by the name of matt shauf, TulsaRamAirGT or GTFreak. Not sure if they custom built their own but I know all three had a WS6 style hood. If not hopefully you can hold out until the Cerious carbon fiber SD hoods are available in a few months.

Final costs for both will be around $600 + S&H.

Hoods will be produced as quickly as possibly and should have a manufactured and shipping date of around late Jan. to Feb.

If you are interested in getting the SD hood for sure, I would definitely put your money down ASAP! It is refundable and fact of the matter is, the CF SC/T hoods sold out in less than a week. Don't be left out because like the CF SC/T hoods these are all made to order and will only be made in batches.

For pics of the CF SC/T hood please go to their website or my registries @:

Not sure if this violates the advertising rules or not since it was a requested group buy for a new product, but mod/admin buddies you make the call.

Geezus Katie. Make up your mind. First you want it, then you dont want it, then you want it again. You're the ONLY one that has been complaining about pulling out of the group buy because of the circumstances. I don't want to sound too abrasive but maybe you should just get the fiberglass version. You won't listen to any of us that CF is as easy to deal with as fiberglass and obviously patience isn't your forte.

Seriously I'm not trying to argue or patronize you. I'm merely pointing out that we're all doing our best to expedite the process and it's not exactly constructive to anyone to berate the company and act so butt hurt like they have a personal vendetta against you. You want the hood that badly, have no particular preference for carbon fiber and don't want to wait so I offered a viable option which is to buy the PFYC one and have it shipped ASAP. It's simple advice. No need to get your panties in a bunch.

How can they be having problems getting the carbon to make the hoods....i went to their website and they specialize in carbon fiber products....isn't that like making an order at burger king and them saying "you will have to wait because were having problems getting the beef patties?" Not to mock their business because I like the products they offer, just confused on why they are having issues getting the main material that everything they produce is constructed of?

hey tokgrandamgt: looks liek your having problems there...posted liek 4 times......well from what they have told many of us that it is hard to get the type of carbon fiber they need for the hoods. they need the wide carbon fiber from japan, and it is in such high demand right now that they are being cut back and have to wait. dont worry you ar ein the same boat as the rest of us (waiting wise)

Cosign what Katie said. I've worked/working with a few different companies that specialize in CF...at first I thought it was just an excuse but there really is a huge demand for large enough sheets of raw CF and manufacturers cannot keep up with orders put in internationally. It's affected BOTH companies I've worked with for larger CF parts and yours is a very short delay compared to stuff I've dealt with.

Quick update:

As for the status on the hoods, just google "Carbon Fiber Shortage", it should pretty much explain everything. We simply can't get any(Thanks to the government, military, and aerospace industry getting it all. They have the $$$ for big contracts, which take priority over the smaller companies). So I can't really give you a date, basically whenever our supplier can get some for us. It's really hurting our business, and many others. Most experts in the industry believe it will not get better soon. Maybe some people would be interested in fiberglass instead? Basically, just tell the people to be patient if they can(everyone will get their hoods as soon as it is possible), if not, refunds can be issued. Then when we finally get carbon(and the hoods) in stock they can pay then.

Like I said, they weren't the first company I've gone through that has this problem.

Some articles regarding the situation:

Heres a Sick idea....long shot...but I saw a car at modified madness with a clear plexiglass/plastic/something transparent hood. It looked SO badass I couldn't even believe it...though you cant drive with it or it will probably melt. How bout a hood that is as close to transparent as possible that you can see through....I have seen that the hoods can even be color transparent or tinted in any color you want. Possible Cerious? If so im in!

I would be down with this also but, I am assuming it is too late as it looked like from the thread that alot of people have deposited and some got left out. I didn't read the entire thread as I got pretty board after about page 3. I see where to send the deposit but I didn't see the costs associated with the deposit or the over all price of the hood.

How much is the deposit?

How much is the CF hood?

I know people who have done it before. As far as getting a ticket, as long as you dont need a hood in pa, (witch im not sure if you do or not) you wont need a hood anywhere. You cant get in trouble for somthing in anouther state if your state says its ok. IIRC you dont need a hood in NY. I know paul (red98grandamse) drove to get his new hood without his old hood on.

yea i think as long as its legal in the state that your from, the worst they can do is give you a warning.

I have attached a pic of a fiberglass version of the hood, you can also see the frame mold to the right and another customer's hood prototype skin in the back. We are looking for a test fit vehicle, preferably locally. The test fit will be using a fiberglass hood, which would be available for purchase by the test fitter for a reduced price. We are willing to ship for a test fit if necessary. Can you pass the word along to the community to see if anyone would be interested?

finally got down there to test fit the hood. They did a good job with the mold it was almost perfect just a few things to touch up. They said they are shooting to get the group buy hoods done within a month.

I thought of that on the way there sadly I didn't bring my camera. The fiberglass test had no larger gaps then OEM and flowed very nice and the hood is well designed to be functional ram air.

I think if you have a portion of it painted but leave a good area where the CF shows through then it would look great with white. if you want an example of what I mean, check out Sik's car in the member's rides section... of course the rest of your car won't be painted like his, but if you did just the hood it would look sweet.

if u paint a portion of it, almost like the paint in being torn through, and the CF is showing. that would look good i assume

Ok, so I just spent 20 minutes reading all the posts on all 12 pages, and I couldnt find an answer to this...
Referring to the picture posted by blackgt2k on page 4, (attached, for your browsing convenience) are those CF inserts, or is the entire surface CF, just painted over?
And the CF SD hood thats the hot topic of discussion, is it all CF like the other hood already offered by Cerious, or does it just have the inserts, and the rest of it needs painted?

I don't know if they will ever make the hood.. but it will most likely be a full CF hood.

I was fortunate enough to buy a CF SCT style hood.. and think there are only 6 in the US. :) 2 in houston.

Josh: the hood is all CF, that picture just shows what it'd look liek if those areas were kept CF....and the rest painted...it was originally made for me cuz i wanted to do something to the affect but never got the hood. 2 years now and they havent gotten it yet.
