View Full Version : Who'd like to see a 96-98 C/F trunk lid?

OK well Cerious Performance, the company that did the C/F work for Sikmindz 99+ said that they would be interested in doing a carbon fiber trunk lid and/or a carbon fiber hood that has scoops, since JSP's hood does not. I am mostly interested in the trunk, because I'm sure it would be difficult to get everyone to agree on a scoop style for the hood. The guy I have been talking to said that he would like to see how many are interested in seeing it get made. This isn't a group buy or a preorder project most likely, but if you have a 96-98 and you'd possibly be interested in the C/F trunk lid, e-mail will@ceriousperformance.com and let him know. This doesn't in any way obligate you to buy anything, he's just gauging interest. Nothing to lose.

it would be nice to see more parts for our cars made, that might mean prices might go down a little

I'd be interested in a nice C/F hood with scoops, and maybe a trunk lid/spoiler.

I emailed him about a trunk, although i dont really have any interest at this moment to buy one, i was thinking about it the other day how it would be cool to have a part like that for our cars.

CF is paintable, so you could get a CF hood with a scoop and then paint it.

This is true, and with this companies prices so far it's just as affordable as fiberglass. And knowing the difference between carbon fiber and fiberglass, it's stronger and lighter so why not?

Sorry to jack the thread Wes, but like TA said I don't understand why people shy away from CF like it's a VD. Even if the hoods are the same price as the fiberglass ones, why would you even think twice about not buying the CF one? Lighter, stronger and you don't REALLY need to paint it! If Cerious starts pumping out these products soon, I foresee other companies slowly lowering their prices to compete.

ya know this does bring up a good point.

everyone knows where i stand.. but the more parts avail for the GA the better right? i just dont see the gain... so its lighter, but for the price + paint (cause its a junkyard dog if its not painted) that it would ever = out the MPG benefit... youd have to have the car for awhile.. but props to ya flat for gettin people wanting...

i sent them an e-mail a couple months ago, the guy replied but didn't sound very intersested in getting involved with our body style. I'm down for the trunk whenever it is released. I'd much rather see JSP or VIS make it but i've learned that you sometimes have to settle as we are limited to our options for parts.

Since I have their parts I'll tell you that the quality of this stuff is on par or BETTER than anything JSP or VIS will put out. The products Cerious has out for the N-Bodies are made in small batches and quality control is very strict. I've had CF done by 3 diff. companies now and Cerious blows the other company out the water. You'll have absolutely no problems with this stuff being top notch. Hope you guys get enough interest!

I want to purchase the CF trunk for my car. I won't do it for weight reduction but for looks. I think it will complete my look for now.
I am sure a lot more members are interested in the trunk.. i say go for it.

CF hood I'd probably be interested, but CF trunk??? I dunno. CF (without being mixed with a metal) isn't stronger than the metal trunk is I don't think. That is only going to add to vibration/rattling for those using subs, no?
I understand the purpose of CF parts is to lose weight and having subs/amps in the trunk does not go together with losing weight, but even with a stereo a CF hood is useful; a trunk I'm not so sure.

Not to go off topic but curious.
What order you'd put these, for example as a trim peice (I already think I know)...
Paint, Chrome, Carbon Fiber, Billet Aluminum, Anodized Aluminum, Polished Aluminum, Primer.

You would be pretty surprised on how strong carbon fiber is.
Real carbon fiber has very heavy tinsel strength, when woven together it provides extreme durability. They make Carbonfiber driveshafts that are stronger than aluminum and weight less than half the weight. And if that isn't a high stress part, I don't know what is.

I'm going to order a SCT hood from my Pontiac dealrship soon. I am getting tired of browsing E-Bay for one; then if you do find one, the damn shipping becomes a hassle too.
I'll just bite the bullet and get the original OEM one from Pontiac...and they can paint it Arctic White for me.
Take care friends...

Really? I always thought if you mixed CF and a metal (like aluminum) together, that was when it got really strong like that. I didn't think it was that strong on its own. I've always heard that CF and aluminum mix is twice as strong and half the weight of steel but never heard of CF being stronger than aluminum on its own (though I guess aluminum isn't all that strong, compared to steel, depending on how the part was made of course).

Ummm..why not join the group buy that I set up for the community? $600 + S&H for a carbon fiber SC/T hood from Cerious Performance. You can paint over the CF if you like too. Just trying to help a fellow member out here... :) PM me for details.
And like TA said, for really good carbon fiber (usually not what's used for commercial products) used for industrial purposes for the most part is EXTREMELY durable despite what it may/look feel like. Related:

I wouldn't have enough $$$ saved for the hood until next Spring anyways...but thank you for asking me.
I haven't seen what the Cerious Performance hood looks like anyways; I'll see if I can find their website through google search.
I think the price would almost equal out between the two.. The dealership where I bought the GT1 would let me have it for a good price, and also a good price on the painting. Plus, I wouldn't have to pay for shipping.
I'll give it some thought though, but at this early stage, I am inclined to get the Pontiac one; the dealership is only 7 miles away too. I'll browse over to the Cerious website though and check it out.
Many thanks for that offer !
Tommy
EDIT >>> I just went over there and clicked onto the hood, but it says "no product found", lol... There was one for a Lancer though. but none for a Grand Am. Unless I chose the wrong link....

The carbon driveshafts have a very thin aluminum center with carbon fiber around that, however it's mostly so they can attach the yolks on the ends, otherwise there is no strong way to attach the aluminum yolks to the CF.
