Well I wasnt a believer but now I must say that the staying below 2K RPM's thing sure does work...or at least for the time being! Still more then a half tank of gas left and im around 230miles on this trip! Any one else wanna share if they have tried?

I need to find out how much my gas tank holds before I can figure mine out, plus its a little hard keeping it around 2k RPM,lol. Your doing well I think

ya, people get a little pissed at me when i drive like an old man but hey, with gas prices the way they are here, 3.25 being the lowest, i could care less what people think!

LOL you guys are funny...

3.25 a gallon? Cheaper, actually quite cheap.

It's almost 4 here. Welcome to my world 4 months ago.

230 miles per half tank is pretty good, should be able to squeeze another 20-25 though if your driving highway.

It just cost me $40 to fill from 1/4 a tank @ $3.49

Unfortunately, I dont have a tach, plus my GAs an auto. So I can't try your technique.

11 gal = $36.00 My 97 GA

14 gal = $48.00 wifes 96 Town and Country

Hmm, I was under the thought that 99+ GAs had a 16 gallon tank...
well darn.

So if 800 km (504 miles) / 14 gal = 36 mpg....

you can't make accurate measurements of your mpg going by your gas gauge. use the trip meter or write down your odomoter settings and get the # of galons off the pump when you fill up the tank. take an average of three or four tank-fulls.

when i fill up the tank, the needle goes past full, and i can drive 100 miles or so before it gets to the full mark. do i have infinite fuel economy since the gauge still says full?

Regardless I should be getting low 30's to maybe even mid 30's on the highway. I can reach im pretty sure 800+ km on a tank.

i got ~ 34.8mpg on my last tank, roughly 70% hwy miles. that would get me 500mi on my 15.6gal tank easily.

Hi friends... LOL ! Brian, I drive like an old man too... but I guess at 50 y.o., I maybe qualify, lol...
But actually, I do drive slow anyways, and I get better gas mileage because of that. I haven't checked the actual m.p.g. yet, but I will soon.
I just bought my GT1 over a month ago and it is all 100% stock. I am guessing my m.p.g. is somewhere aroung 30; but that is a guess.
But of course, if I start screwing around and blow the carbon out, the m.p.g. will decline a bit. Hey, even us older guys like to punch the gas sometimes, lol !!

Take care everyone....

Tommy

argh...I just noticed my guage was almost down to half a tank and I'll barely get 100 miles out of it. Dang tire must be soft again. Oh yeah, and I've been driving too much...gotta have my wife drive more, she's nicer than me

I hit 407 miles without the "Low Fuel" alarm. It got 34.26 MPG (11.88 gallons) on the last tank.

Well I filled up last Friday and only used a 1/4 tank and drove 175 miles. Before friday I was getting about 260 miles to the tank. We did a few minor things Friday like clean the air filter and feather footin it all week, we'll see if it helps at all.

i must drive with a lead foot.. my 96 saturn with a tiny motor got 27 mpg averaged.. on highway trips going 70mph it was like.. 33-34mpg
im driving my old celica again, 1987 celica GT 5 speed.. i average 24 mpg in that thing.. with a little 2 liter motor.. i think its running rich though.. sometimes my exhaust smells like fuel

my gas mileage hasnt been that great lately....probably 27 on the highway. Thats going about 80-85mph with the a/c on. I need to slow down and drive easier on the street.....I have a major lead foot. I've done just about everything possible to help improve gas mileage (plugs, wires, air filter, fuel filter, injector cleaner, throttle body cleaner).

This is crazy I have a 1998 grand am with a 3.1 and i drive 85% highway and I only get like 20 or 21 mpg. How in the world do you get 30??!??

Bjornboy81
09-16-2005, 02:51 PM
How are you calculating you gas mileage? if you're basing it on what a tank holds you'll be low. base it on how much you actually used :)

1998GrandAmSE
09-16-2005, 04:56 PM
Yea that's what i do

when i fill my tank up full i take the miles i drove divided by the gallons i put in from the pump meter.

idk how u guys get 30 thats half crazy half cool

I had a 1993 Saturn SC2 (5-speed, sunroof, nice 16" rims, it was sharp and had enough balls/weight ratio to show the import kids the taillights) and I managed to hit 23mpg once. Normally I got 30+, but running like a mad man kills the mpg.

*sigh* One of the gas stations in my town burned down (the restaraunt part started the fire) so the other gas station is going to raise their prices. I can say good bye to the $2.85 per gal here.

Also im lucky to get 300 miles out of a tank.
