How many amps can the cigareete lighter socket handle? I just bought an air compressor from Wal-Mart yesterday. I opened the box and found out that it clearly stated "DO NOT OPERATE FROM VEHICLE CIGARETTE LIGHTER SOCKET" "Minimum 10AMP only".

You might be better off connecting the compressor to the battery. The cigarette lighter fuse, relay and wires may be able to handle the amps but not for a long time.
