Well first you're gonna want to use a good cleaner, no I'm not talking about just a wash soap. Get in there with a buffer and use something like Meguiars Medium Cut Cleaner. It's really going to bring a depth to your paint. ESPECIALLY if you're sensing you need to use a clay bar. Then go over it with a good clay bar. I personally use Mothers products if it comes to claybarring something.
Paint is not something you want to skimp on. Take your time! Good Luck!

^ a good time to clay bar is when you run your fingertips along the vehicle and you actually can feel tiny bumps in your paint. Almost as if there were tiny sand particles in your paint somewhere.
As far as a good wax, people are going to tell you about all these incredible waxes out there. This is where you need to trust me. I watch this stuff being used on GM show vehicles and concepts, anything else is going to be a waste of good money.
Go out and find a product by 3M. It's a Professional Formula called "Perfect it - Show Car" It's a liquid wax and you can use it with a buffer or apply it by hand. The part number for it is 39026. Can't beat it in my opinion.
