Yes it's true, the rumored Trailblazer SS is now supposed to go into production.
But as with all concept vehicle it won't be the same as originally mentioned.
Original plans were for a RWD and 345hp V8. Well it's true you can get it as RWD, and also AWD but the V8 doesn't produce 345hp as mentioned. Instead the 6.0 liter LS2 V8 will make a phuny 395hp. Thats right, MORE power than originally planned.
The motor is identical to the Corvette LS2 except for 10 less hp due mostly to to it's more restrictive 2.75" exhaust and engine driven, clutch type cooling fan designed to reeduce engine temps while towing. And unlike the Silverado SS, and SSR 'sport trucks' this SUV can haul with a tow rating up to 6800lbs.
Transmission is a 4L70E with stronger axles holding 9.5" ring gears with a 4.10:1 gear ratio and Eaton limited slip differental.Suspension is covered with 33% stiffer front and rear springs dampened by Bilistein monotube gas shocks. A larger front anit-roll ball and stiffer bushings along with a lower ride height reduce body roll. And that helps when you yank the wheel with a quicker 16.0:1 steering ratio compaired to the other Trailblazer's 20.3:1.
The 20" wheels are wrapped in 255/50R20 Goodyear RSAs and help pull the SUV to a quick stop via 12.8" rotors, Corvette spec brake pads, and functional front brake cooling ducts.
All this power equals to about 13.9@100mph in the 1320, 0-60 in 5.4 seconds, stops from 60mph in 129', and puts on .80 lateral g's of grip topping out at a limited 130mph.
From a base 2WD SS at $33,600 to a loaded AWD version priced at about $39,600.
Compaired to most SUVs on the market, bang for the buck I think there isn't anything that will top it.
Oh and here is a web site I found for images of the future Trailblazer SS.
