View Full Version : Rain guard=tacky?

If you read my other post, I have to replace my defrost vent because it cracked from the heat. I leave my windows up all the time because when I leave them cracked it would rain and I never can get to them in time...

Do you all think the rain guards for windows look tacky? I really am thinking about getting some so I can leave my windows cracked without having to worry about it getting wet inside.

Thanks for the input!

i'm planning on getting some for my car. i don't think they would look tacky but i can't say that for sure until i actually see them on my car.

quite honestly, they USUALLY look bad IMO. Sometimes they look good, depends on body style, and color of car.

something I don't get.. why do you want to leave the windows open a bit? I always have my windows closed.. ??

i heard that the heat builds up too much and could shatter your windows but what are the chances of that happening?

The heat has actually made some of my plastic break...(the defrost vent). I got this car used, was in great condition...but who ever had it before me never put anything on the dash area because it woudln't have cracked if they did...

If your car sits in the sun a lot, it is best to leave it cracked a little, not much, just enough to let heat out.

The ventvisors that they sell on www.weathertech.com are really good looking. They're not the stick-on with 3M tape kind. They fit into the window channel for a sleek look.

Yeah, I would like to be able to leave the windows cracked all the time just to make sure it don't get too hot in there.

Going to go by local autozone and see if they have em, don't wanna wait a few days hehe.

Thanks again!

I think the 99+ looks awsome with them

I like the ventvisors on the side windows, dont like the sunroof air deflector.

with the vent thing on the sunroof, it should make it so you can't hear it at all.

I know when my father was getting his '99 GP GTP off the 3 years lease, he asked the dealer for any extras they could throw on, he got cheap mud flaps (they would scrape whenever the car tunerd or went over 3-5 pebbles, not changes with nice GP flaps) anyway, he aslo got the sunvisor thing vent thingy, and when the moon roof is open all the way, and we are crusing on the highway, you do not hear it one bit at all, I was pretty shoked, I mean you just don't hear it.

At first I thought it made the car look (worse) then it did, but now it grew on me and I don't really notice it anymore.

well, if that is the case, i am gonna go and get one ASAP because i would love to have my sunroof open with no noise

It does make a difference, but it's still not silent. It just helps to reduce wind buffeting at higher speeds. I don't regret having it though. :)

maybe it's just the differnce between the way the GA and GP are made then, because on the GP, it is silent. But like you said, it will make a differnce (maybe differnt types will too?)

I have noticed that some of you are going to get the rain guard. I think I will get it, thank you all for everything!

i am going to get them. Painting them sounds like a good idea. I have a black car so it would look cool. They would probably look good on cars like Silver and white with tinted windows.

I know this is an old thread, but did anyone have success in painting these? Also I have seen some of you with 4 doors but only ventshades on the front. Is there a reason? Or is it just personal preferences?

The link that was posted looks good. They are almost clear and mount in the window channel. The price is higher than the stick on style but not too bad.

I have the vent shades or maybe the vent visors. They are darker and stick on the outside of the frame. I've seen some painted but that looks odd to me. Maybe because most of them aren't painted.

If I was to do it all over again, I would change the mirrors to duel posts and cover the SE chrome trim around the windows before adding the visors. I haven't seen any four door cars with just the fronts. The two doors look odd with just the front visors.

Hm, I had a63 look at the weathertech site ... I wonder what your definition of a higher price not being to bad is? I have a set of the Autovent Shades (stick to the outside) paid $60 (taxes in) versus $180 + tax from the Canadian distributer for Weathertechs.
I'm thinking it might look odd painted myself.
What would you cover the chrome with?

tenspeed

I saw the four door set for $80-something with $12 shipping. (edit - just rechecked the site - $90 + $12 ship) My vent visors were around $50ish + shipping. I agree $180+ is a lot more in your case.

There are vinyl kits that cover the chrome strip. Some use a good vinyl electrical tape but I don't think that it has the same shine.

Will have to test/try few options to cover that chrome, I agree that it should be covered before applying as I don't think it would look right.

Thanks.

Without chrome trim covered:

And with chrome covered (I just used 1/4" 3m pinstripe, had to do 2 strips to get complete coverage, think if I have to redo it I'll get the next size and trim down after application):
