Cruise Control Problem

Hello! I have a 1998 Grand AM GT. The car is a great car besides this problem and one other with the torque converter which is also posted. The cruise control shuts off when I hit any bumps- even light bumps. I can press resume and 80% of the time it will resume for a while and then shut off again when I hit another bump. 20% of the time or more it does not resume at all and I must set it again. Some days are different than others but the control may last for 10 seconds before it goes off again. I'm not sure what could be causing this and what steps to take. I think it may be possible that the brake lever is too sensitive. Could anyone help me out here? Thank you, I truly appreciate your help.

Mine doesn't go 'off' by itself, but during the past 3 months or so it doesn't 'resume' as dependably as it formerly did.

I suspect the 'multi-switch' is just old, and the contacts within the cruise are either worn or dirty.
I hate tearing-in to places I've never been, so I'll prolly live with this for a while since it's not too serious.

Yours sounds serious.

First, make sure your battery/alternator/cables are in good shape.

I know that on my 2000 if the ABS or Low Trac sensors tirggers the ABS light that it will shut off the cruise. (safety feature I guess) I have a thought you might want to check out. If the wheel sensor wiring is loose, corroded, or just intermitant that MAY be what is causing the prob. Do you notice a low trac or abs light when the cruise cuts out? Otherwise you may have to replace the cc module or lastly the PCM (or BCM, not sure which)

I'd just check the wiring real well ,may be a loose connection.

ya it soudns like a loose connection. make sure all the wires ar ein good sahp and all are connecting. my cruise unit was corroded so i took it out.
