My 89 2.3 had a drain whole in the fire wall under where the heater core hoses hooked up. If you are getting water out of that drain whole...a leaking core is about the only way it can get in there to drip out that hole.

If it's coolant, the core is leaking. If it's water, its just condensate from running the A/C

Hmm.. sounds like it may be the heater core..

Good luck with everything!!

I like your thread title "it never ends" -- How true, it's always one thing after another..

Ugh, I hate heater cores. Well, when they leak, anyway...

Good luck. It's a pain to get to, but probably worth the money you'll save by doing it yourself. Unless you make good money - then just have someone else do it. ;)

i started tearing into it today- its the heater core.

Good luck. It's a pain to get to

you ain't kiddin' :roll2: i had to take out the center console, and tear apart half the dash to get at it! if i ever meet the idiot that designed the heater core cover i'm gonna slap him silly! :bash: that last screw by the firewall is a P_I_T_A!!! would have had it out today if a thunderstorm wouldn't have blown through... oh well, one less thing to worry about when it's done :P .

thanks for the feedback-

Are you absolutely sure that's the last screw? Double-check, because I missed one or two when I did mine (though I left the console in, which greatly reduced visibility). The heater core would be much easier in a car with no center console. :)

if you have not yet removed the hoses from the heater core at the fire wall, it would be a good idea to get those before you loosen the core.

Helpfull hint....

I'm guessing you have. so the hint may not be needed.

Also the last time I replaced mine I put a little permatex #2 around the metal/plastic out pipes to the fire wall. The flet like crap they put in there just don't hold up. The car smelt funny for two days from the permatex. But I bet it don't leak from there again.

A small battery/eletrical drill help save a lot of time with the little screws and stuff.
