Ok i am a GM fanatic. The only cars i have never had any problems out of any GM truck or car i have every owned. I just traded in my sweet looking Z71 truck on a 2003 Grand AM GT and when i got to work every one was busting my chops about getting a grand am because they said that their engines dont hold up. (is this rumor true) do is there something i should be looking for on this thing. The only reason i went this way is because my Z was getting 8mpg and the GT gets 20 in town. Any input would be nice. Thx guys and gals

there is a tendency to blow intake gakets, but if you dont beat the hell out of it, it'll be alright. All cars have some sort of problem, dont think about how many gaskets have failed, think about how many have failed compared to how many that havent.

they all will fail at some point, it is the way the engine is made and the gasket can;t take the strain forever. and the coolent system will probably be the #2 thing ghrt

eco wasnt till mid 2002, but the 2.4 wasnt all to reliable in compareison, and work on it costs a fortune for some things, but the Lower intake manifold gaskets are a problem, and the gaskets themeslves are relitvily cheap, but labor for them can get it in to 500+$

2003 was the gasket change over. I haven't heard of many if any 03's on up having the gasket trouble that the earlier models did. As far as the engines. I've only known of 3 that have blown off the top of my head, and that's when they have been under extreme strain.
