i own a '96 Grand am Gt with 182000 thousand miles, i think that the engine has been replaced, but i don't know how to check. it runs like brand new, has all the horsepower, and mechanics seem to feel that it just doesn't have that many miles. when looking under the hood, i see numbers wrote on everything like the hood and fenders, so i think it has been wrecked before, but it has a clean title. i plan on keeping the car awhile since it probably doesn't have so many miles on the engine and i didn't pay much for a mint five speed grand am.

Could very well be a replacement, either a remaned shorty or a used engine. Replacement engines will generally have a tag affixed to the block. These tags will tell if the engine was overheated, in which case your warranty would be voided. At work we buy a lot of used engines and they all come with that tag.
