What i'm mostly worried about is the hoses and rubber components. I lubricate the throttle linkage with wd-40, and hit any metal fasteners that have a rusty look with wd-40 too.
What should i rub down the rubber hoses and generally the rubber like the power steering hose and flexable brake lines with?

Try a tire cleaner...I use the Maguires Endurance Tire Gel, it not only protects the rubber, but has that nice shine that will last a long time

same thing he said tire shine works wonders especially the spray on foam kind gets in the little spots

Foam works I agree, I use that when I want a quick job, but as it does on tires...does not last long, the Endurance does...both do the job:D

Just make sure the tire/rubber stuff you use does not contain petroleom disstilates. I dont know why companys make rubber stuff with this in it because it breaks down the chemicals in the rubber. Want a pretty engine bay after wshing spray the whole thing with Armour All spray and just let it dry on its own.

me love armorall for my engine, doesnt leave that fake shine effect but makes the parts look factory and new :P if you want the shine then id go with the black magic wet stuff

You know, I had an engine steam-cleaned by a shop once. Darn thing never ran right again.

Ever since, It's been a spray bottle and hand rubbing for me.
(Besides, there's something very satisfying about being able to say, "I did it all myself.")
