Well ill probably get shot for this thread but o well.....I went new car shoppin the other day, well just looking, im going to be buying in June of 06. I went to look at the new altima at drivers village is cicero, before i could make my way over there, a guy working for mitsubishi came up and started talking to me. He was showing me all the cool spec's about the new galant and the new eclipse...he let me test drive the new eclipse GT. and let me tell ya,...that things got some balls. Other people might think so but the only thing i can compare it too is my GASE or my grandma's Buick....he let me go alone and...let me just say i test drove the shit outta that car. got rubber in second.
Now the point of this thread is to get everyones honest oppinion about the new eclipse so let it begin....

Before I got my G6 GTP I went and test drove a new Eclipse (V6) and it was definatly fun to drive. I didn't like the idea of pumping premium when regular is $3+ a gallon though.
It's definatly got a unique look.

I think the new one looks more like the older ones and I'm glad, cuz the last one wasn't much to look at. Though I'm not that big of a fan of the new one.
But I'm not sure I like the engine. They gave it a 28% increase in displacement to get the extra 25% of power. Gonna suck more gas now.

ya...i forgot to mention before it requires premium fuel and gets about 18mpg....that and the fact that its not dual exhaust are the two things thats got me kinda not sure about it. One more thing is that im not sure if i can get the sunroof with out the premium package for 3 grand more.

I haven't read a whole lot about the newest Eclipse's, but the older ones(95-99) and before were awesome. A friend of mine has a 97 GSX, and that thing hauls major a$$. I like the looks of the 06 a lot better than the 3g's, they also come stock with a lot more power. Make sure you get a version with turbo though, if not they're pooches. Also I dont know about the newest, but the 97 came pushing i believe 12-14psi, and with a few bolt ons and a tune up can be pushed to 15-18 with stock internals. I say, if you want performance in a hot lookin car, def get the eclipse, even tho it'll cost you a few bucks more at the pump.

yea, the second gear thing doesnt sell the car to me... my ga gt can do it if im trying to. but i quit doing that for fun cause of gas.... just when someone needs a wake up call from their little ol neon with donuts as wheels.

I liked the other years, but IMO the new one is ugly!

I personally think the new ones are HOTTTTTT
All I know though is they're kinda pricy, and the insurance for something like that is insanely high. My friend was gonna get one, but the insurance was somewhere like $7,000 a year??

I think they should have used the 270hp 2.0 turbo engine that is in the evolution instead of turning to a v6 for the extra power. I'm running a 91 Eagle Talon TSI AWD Turbo and getting 28 MPG. Especially today when gas mileage is important to the consumer I don't get why they didn't.
In fact I don't really get why they did away with the turbo models at all, I thought they were hot sellers. Maybe it was just to make the evolution more tempting because you can't get a cheap model with a turbo from Mitsubishi anymore.

I like the new eclipse, it has nice styling and a powerful engine. The MIVEC V6 gets 18/27 which isnt tooo bad, yes it runs on premium but it will only cost you $2-$3 more on a fill up. Big deal thats one less trip to mcdonalds....

I saw one in real life, yesterday, I think it's even uglier in person. But I guess I can see why people like it. Just not my style.

i think it looks hot, much better than the previous generation, and the idea of a 6spd V6 with that much power is enticing.. but don't you think they could have turboed a smaller V6, like the 3.0l, and gotten just as much power and better fuel economy? i mean if you have to put premium in it anyway..
my 3x00 gets around 24/34 now.. with $6000 i could probably have a car with just as much power, a manual transmission, better mileage, and 500lbs lighter. it wouldn't look as cool, but i'll just hang on to my beretta thanks. with the $22000 i'm saving i can buy some phat stickers or something to ease my mind.

Saw one when they first came out. The orange is bad ass! I love that color, and I think the car looks pretty cool IMO. It's different no doubt! :)

I think a better point to this thread would be good reasons not to buy demonstrator vehicles.

Turbo also equals more torque but you get the power sooner.
In my opinion I'd much rather have a smaller motor with a turbo than a bigger one without.

Sadly, I think we will see alot of styling cues from this car be adapted to others, like how the headlight design from the 1999 up Celica is common design in many cars, like most of Nissans.
