I am getting a new car in the spring and I am playing with the idea of rebuilding my 97 GAGT
What do you guys think? Good long term project?

I would want a new engine possibly a 350 (wish) or a new 2.4L

I donno, it would be expensive, but it would be nice to hold on to it and make it a unique show car

Ive thought pretty deeply about the 350 idea myself, but thatd be some project to pull off.. Youd ahve to convert to RWD somehow most likely. My thought was to try and use a grand national chassis, but I have yet to think it out in depth. Personally, I think a 3800 series III supercharged engine would be a rather sweet swap. Its been done in a 92-95 GA, a 99+ GA, and in a 91GA, but never in our 96-98s :(

that would **** up the weight distribution, talk about some major rake w/ a V8, just get a cheap 2.4 and then just tune it up before you fully install, get forced induction, pulley, PCM upgrade, then it would be less of a headache too

turbo the 2.4 or go with a 3800 swap.

don;t use a GN chassis for the project, use something less valuable to the hotrodding crowd (i'm one of them), like a S10 frame. Just make sure it it sits right.

thats my goal project right now,the 3800 swap with the SC,not just the plain 3800. Should make the 96-98 GA quick

yea RWD conversions are not worth the $$$,unless you got it to drop into it. Not to mention the labor work if you can't do most of it yourself

No RWD, just a new engine and a 5 speed. Who makes a turbo for the 2.4L?

Its not really who makes a turbo for the 2.4, b/c you can use any turbo you want to use (aslong as it will work efficently with your setup) But i think you are asking who makes a turbo kit for the car. in that case, not many. If i were to do a turbo setup it would be all one off.
