After being sold last November (story here (http://autonet.ca/AutonetStories/Stories.cfm?storyID=13449)) the old GM plant in Boisbriand was completely razed in the last few weeks.

I went to visit my parents last weekend and I was pretty surprised to see all that was left of the immense complex was but a few piles of debris. I'll try not to forget my digital camera next time I go for a visit, it's a pretty sad sight...

Anyway, for those who care, the plant is no more...

Even though I hadn't heard about the plant being dismantlantled apparently there were a few journalists there...

Should have been converted to a F-body museum.

Man that sucks.

I lost so much respect for GM off their destruction of that car...

I've witnessed a GM plant that was kind of dear to me being destroyed. It wasn't fun watching them tear down the old 6.2/6.5 diesel plant. That plant had a lot of history in Dayton. The original portion of it produced airplane propellers for the war effort in WW1, Frigidaire operated the building between the wars, then it was converted again to produce 50 caliber machine guns in WWII, to which later it went back to building appliances. Then GM bought the company, and it was reconfigured for the diesels then, with my dad having been there through it's lifespan with GM. I still remember entering the plant via the underground tunnel from the plant's parking lot (the parking lot and plant were seperated by a busy section of road, so the tunnel was in place to let you easily move between) during numerous open houses. There was one of the diesels in the lobby for you to look at, it was from the original opening house. My dad and another person hand assembled that motor for the Opening.

I also remember watching them take all the heavy machinery out and then slowly peel the plant away, including the motor that was in the lobby. :( Now it's extra parking for the Truck&Bus plant. They use it to park Trailblazers.

And now seeing pics of the FBody plant, where my own car came from, somewhat saddens me. The pic also reminds me a lot of what I saw then.

That would've been a bigass museum :D

Everything you see in the picture above was part of the plant (including the buildings in the background). It was actually about 1/5th of the plant you can see in that pic.

So? I'm sure we can come up with enough to fill it!

I'm getting really confused.

There was plans? There are no plans? There was a mock-up built? There were no 03 plans?

Come on guys! Tell me what you know ;)

My point was they already planned on killing the FBody years before the last one was produced in '02. If they didn't have plans for a '03 how would they have cancled a model not made?

The rumor of the 2007 F-body, picture that everyone has seen was drawn by someone in their 20's but is not GM backed. If GM had any plans for a 2007 F-body you'd think there would have been more out about it.

I've heard the Firebird/Trans Am was nixed for good, but a tentative plan was to bring a Camaro back for 2007 ISH.

Dunno the validity of it, but.

wow. you guys clearly don't pay attention to whats going on in the Car world, do you? don't you read magazines related to cars? click to get educated. http://www.motortrend.com/future/spied/112_0508_future_gm/index.html the Camaro/Firebird/Trans Am was slated to be released on the Chevy Zeta chasis(sp?) platform. Believe me, im a muscle car guy and have known about this news since early summer.

I think I'll wait to see what Adam says, if this was true, there would be alot more talk on the F-Body boards.

What I can say is that there is a mock up in existance. It's not painted, but it is crafted metal. It uses a brand new platform idea (not Zeta).

Sorry 91Grandayyyum, these guys do keep up with the automotive world. There's no need to insult them. I've always said to go to the source and not to the media.

I'm far from the say all and end all of GM. I'd never claim to know everything, in fact, I got a lesson from Kelly today when it came to some GM software.

Just out of curiousity(if you even know) IF or When they bring the Camaro/Firebird back, will they consider it an F-body? Or will that stick it with one of these zeta, cappa, etc. names to it?

I'm sorry that I'm so uneducated. Though 6 Fbodies and a Turbocharged GBody I still don't know anything.

To be honest do yourself a favor and stop reading the bloody yuppie rags like 'MotorTrend'. Those morons print more mistakes and misinformation as a 16 yearold on a Civic forum. They print whatever it takes to sell issues, and they kiss whoever's butt that is paying more for advertising space.

To be honest Cory, I really don't know. I suppose it's possible that the F-Body platform could be completely reintroduced. I'll do some digging on it. From what I've seen and heard of the vehicle (and it's been little) the platform is completely brand new. My inital guess is that it gets a "greek name" so to speak. But it's too early to really say.
