I know some people around here use fuel system cleaner on a regular basis. My question is what brand is the best? Valvoline, STP, zMAX are a few of the ones I can think of right now. Are any one of these better than the other. Or is there a better brand out there that I don't know of?

If you use fuel injector cleaners you shouldn't use them often., maybe every other oil change. On that I would recomend STP and other name brands. Do not use zMax, I wish I had the artcle but bascally the main ingerdiant used in it is no good for your motor in the long run.

yeah, STP is the one i use. come to think of it, it is abou time to use it again. I would recommend STP and doing the cleaning too. It does help. The bottle claims to use it everytime you fill up the tank, but that is STP trying to sell more. I might stop by autozone and pick one up today.

I've always used STP. Its cheap and it works. I see some brands at the store for $20 + and I dont think they do any more than the $2.50 bottle of STP does. I'm not sure about this, but I think fuel injector cleaner is mainly just kerosene with some other additives.

When I use F.I. cleaner I ONLY use Chevron It's the only thing I've found that made a visible difference when I used it on my old 87' Plymouth Sundance 2.2L Turbo.

Does FI cleaner just go in with the gas when you fill up the tank or does it work some other way?

Yes...just dump a bottle in when you fill up your tank and run the tank of gas till its almost empty. There are more concetrated ways to do it, but its usually done by a dealer or mechanic.

Anyone ever used OUTLAW fuel injector cleaner? I always had good luck with that but havent put any in the new car yet. Heck, apparently it took me a week to put the gas cap on right! Who knows what else I will screw up??

Yeah I used STP in my old Prizm and it worked well. Just wonderered what else what out there. Guess it's best to stick with STP. I was happy with the results when I used it.

BTW: TA^Guy I did a google search and found this link about zMax http://www.ftc.gov/opa/2001/02/zmax1.htm

Chevron Techron works pretty well. I had an old '83 LeSabre 4.1 V-6 4bbl that was in need of a carb rebuild. Ran rough during idle, sometimes would stall. I tossed in a can of that, lo and behold.....the carb problem went away by the time I had gotten to 1/2 a tank of gas. You can find it for about $10.....well worth the extra cash =). Follow the directions......1 can treats 17 gallons of fuel.

I used to use Valvoline fuel system cleaner, but it got to be too expensive. So now I use the O'Reily Brand Fuel System Cleaner. Works fine... Only thing I've ever heard on fuel system cleaners is make sure they don't contain alcohol.
