I got a 95 Grand Am GT 5 speed with the 2.3L DOHC
Well turns out, I blew the engine in it, I cracked a piston and warped the head gasket during a street race (I assume that's what it was from considering it was fine beforehand)

Anyways, I found a 95 Grand Am GT for sale and it has the 3.1 V6 but it's an automatic

Here's my question...

Would it be possible to switch the transmissions between the 2 cars and make the 3.1 into a 5 speed and make the 2.3 into the automatic?

Because I'm really considering buying this car, but if it's possible to switch the transmissions, I'll definately buy it.

Thanks for your time and any and all help that you can give me

The motors don't bolt up to the other tranys. Then there is all the eletrical issues....

If you don't want to buy it if you can't switch the tranys...pass on it.

Geez, ok, thanks for the help

Would there be an easier way to do something about my problem?

OK

Here's another thought

What if I can find a Grand Am GT that's an automatic, that has the 2.3 in it, would the tranny's bolt up then?

rebuild the 2.3 5 speed, they eat a lot of v6's.

The shape of the 2.3 motor is way different that the shape of the 3.1. Long story short....never the two shall meet.

Not being a smart ass, just there apples and oranges.

And I don't think you will find a stock GA v6 mated to a 5 speed.
boy I'm killing lots of dreams.

I had my old Quad 4 DOHC totally rebuilt with a new head and clutch for just over 2 grand. Might sound like a lot at first, but dam that's almost a new car then.

I'd rebuild the engine too

Rebuild - much easier.

Any type of engine / transmission swap will leave you with multiple issues... including engine/trans mounts, and a nightmare for wiring/PCM.
