Does anyone know what are the best aftermarket headers offered for the 3.1 L SFI? If so which ones give the best performance? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Theres only TOG (which are intended for the 3400) but should bolt on fine but there might be clearance issues and no one has tried it yet. They dynoed at 19whp on an Alero with some other minor mods. S&S is suppose to come out soon with their 3400 version and they have a donor car to see if it does fit for the 3100 too so its basically just wait and see for now

What companys are TOG and S&S? Also what kind of clearence issues? And any guess on how long till the S&S are developed?

Thanks

TOG = The Other Guys
S&S = Street and Strip
The clearance issues shouldnt be anything major, its just that the 99+ 3400s arent the exact same as pre 99 3100s but no one knows for sure if there even is some clearance problems yet to confirm it since no one with a 3100 has headers as of now. Your guess is as good as mine for S&S, they have been saying "2 or 3 more weeks" since before Christmas and last week they told someone 10 days........ and still everyone waits :rolleyes:

Last October I had an opportuntinty to look over a 99+GA with the TOG headers installed, and I can say that there aren't any significant clearance issues. The front header will easily clear the radiator in the front, and the rear will also not interfere with anything out back.

The biggest questions with 3400 headers being installed on 3100 blocks is whether the flanges will fit flush, and whether the piping coming off of them will line up with the placing of the exhaust on pre-99 GAs.

As far as I know, TEAM_AED is supposed to be keeping in touch with S&S to have some test-fitted on his 3100.

There have been no recent updates, however.

I would be very interested in knowing if the 3400 headers will work. The only problem I fore see is the O2 Sensor.

'Glad I found this thread; I was going to ask if anyone had heard about the S&S headers progress. 'Guess it'd be pointless to call them for a while, 'cept to pressure them into getting some ready. I hope it doesn't take much longer though, 'cuz I'm gonna be doing some P&P soon and I'd like to have all of this stuff done at the same time to save $$$.

Check this out http://www.ssheaders.com/4Cylinder.htm they list the 3400 headers there for $349.95

I was going to get the TOG headers off ebay, but they went up too much 4 me :( btw (I probibly asked this b4) does anyone know how long and how much it would cost to get headers done?

I started a S&S header thread over in the 3400 section a little while ago with an update. If you mean how long it takes to install them, it will be about 4-6 hours depending where you take it......around here its $60/hr so 250-350 for installation

So if I figure this, I'll be spending over $1200 on an exhaust and waiting forever. That's nuts! If I do the s&s headers and 2.25 piping from them and a hi-flow cat (not including muffler which I already have). I wish I had the facilities to do this myself. One question though, does having headers increase emissions? If it does can the cat handle all the extra work? And one more, What makes the T.O.G. headers alot more expensive than the S&S?

Im not sure about emissions but the reason why TOG is more expensive is cuz they are CARB approved and have a lifetime warranty, S&S have neither. It ended up costing TOG 10 grand to get these CARB approved.
