Just got my SLP catback installed and it sounds awesome, although a little louder than i expected (wanted). There's definitely a kick in the speed of the car.

I was just wondering. Is it possible to make it quiet when i want to (like with a different exhaust tip that has a removable silencer or something like that)?

PS: it looks cool and sound cool too.

You could get another muffler, but nothing that has a removable silencer that I know of. A lot of people like to use Borla mufflers with their SLP because it tones it down. I personally wouldn't trade my SLP muffler for anything.

give it some time...it mellows after about a month or so. I've never heard of removable resonators, but there are tips that have fiberglass resonators built in. (fiberglass lined). Give it a month and see how you like it then. It was a little loud for me too, but now it's perfect.

Did you do the install yourself?

Thanks for the comments

Did you do the install yourself?

No. It was installed by a local meineke for $60

SLP exhaust will only get louder when it gets broken in. I really thought about going with a quieter muffler, but I think I am gonna stick with my SLP system and get it welded.

what do you mean get it welded?

Well actually when I first got SLP, I had stock airbox. Then I went from WAI to CAI. So that's probably why.

Manny1117

I already had CAI.
Also do you have any hissing sound at very high rpms? Not quite sure if that's normal or may be the tips weren't welded around completely. It almost sounds like a SC, but i hear it only at 5500

Getting all the joints welded without clamps. I think they tend to get loose over time. I think hissing comes from the CAI.

Bjornboy81

the hissing is from the air going past the plate in the throttle body...you can hear it with the CAI.

I was going to weld mine, but being that it has a lifetime warrenty, I think I'll just deal with tightening it, and not voiding the warrent.

can always put a glass pack mini muffler that the hot-rod guys use as a resonator,it'll sound much deeper but still with some loudness without the high pitch tone. I plan on getting a glass pack to put on to get my exhaust a little deeper.

This is a question to anyone who has SLP cat-back. What did it do to your gas mileage? cos mine seems to have dropped a ton

Mine went up a lot from normal since I kept my foot out of it, the sound of it was awesome when I first got it, so I kept hammering the gas pedal to the floor, after the sound wore off on me, the mileage went back up. Even with my headers, and DHP with some of my own tuning I am seeing 32-33mpg on the highway with 93 octane.

You taking the car back to the track this year to see what the Headers and the rest got you?

I think my gas mileage got worse with SLP because I get on it more because it sounds sweet.

mine dropped a lil' bit, but agian, it's probably cause i was harder on it.

I used a different muffler w/ the same results and mine mellowed out.
And when I drive normally it gets up in high gear very quickly w/ no power loss. But the gas mileage semms the same.

Going for cai next, we see how it does.

My friend's '00 GA GT sounds awesome with the SLP exhaust! That's what I want my '04 to eventually sound like. :bow2:

In reply to your first post, Manny:

I heard on here a while back someone felt the same about the sound so they went out and got borla resonated tips and they said it helped a ton to mellow out the sound.

Thought that might help

I got a pair of resonater exhaust tips for the winter. It cut the cabin noise down a whole lot. It's almost like stock when cruising but still barks when you rev it up.

I didn't want the "fart can" look so I bought some that had about a 3" OD. I used some fittings to reduce to the 2.25" inlet. They're about 7" long and made by 3A.

I have a 5.7L with no muffs and 2.5" piping, THAT is LOUD.

I'm going SLP muffler from a GrandPrix kit I parted out, and 2.5" pipes. Replace cat with glasspack.

Louvered inside- reduces exhaust flow
perforated=performance

i just meant it was loud and v8 sounding, its not as loud as my brother's 96 silverado 350 - but he was impressed with the slp, no muffler is illegal by the way, take off your cat converter to while your at it, that will add a little sound :)

My gas milage went up by about 2 mpg with the SLP and that is with everyhting else stock no intake as of yet or what not. I use 89 octane just cause I wanna feel special lol. But I saw a bit of a jump... and I actually got pulled over about 2 months ago cause the trooper thought my exhaust was too loud....he asked me if I had a hole in my muffler I wanted to kick him in the nuts for that one.....also I hear that hissing noise at about 5500 rpms also is there anyway to get rid of that or just chalk it up to anohter funny sound my car can make? Lastly congrats on the SLP Ive had mine for about 6 months and still love the sound IMO it is not too loud, I wish it was a little louder throught the whole rpm band a little mroe consist if you will.

Its not illegal to have no mufflers.

Its noise pollution, the decibal level would be over the limit.

With enough resonators it won't be that bad.

That's how the SRT-4 comes stock.

back when i had my 94 blazer i had dual straight pipes with no muffler, our wonderful Wisconsin state patrol pulled me over and stated, you do not have a muffler, you need to put one on so he gave me 2 weeks to get a muffler - if you get caught by the right cop, its illegal

I live in michigan you have to remember, we have no inspections of any kind. The only thing we get nailed for is tint, and even that is nothing more than a small fine or fix it. Yes there is a noise "ordinance" in alot of counties but no law saying we must have a muffler and last time i checked no state has a law saying you have to have a muffler. The most they can do is give me a ticket for being loud. They can not give me a fix it ticket for no mufflers.

The SRT-4 has a turbo which acts as the muffler. Most cars with turbos don't need any sort of resonator/muffler.

Actually I no longer think mine is loud. I absolutely love it. I guess i needed sometime to break it in. I love the fact that i turn heads when i drive by, and my friends know it's me once my car is around.
The hissing sound i was told is just from the car sucking in a lot more air through the TB. That kind of makes sense cos there's less restriction to flow now. Just wait till i put in a 62mm TB and a header. lol.:evil2:

A 62mm TB wont do anything for you without P&P UIM and LIM and even then it wont do much. Also you mean "headers".

*headers* my bad.
