my car won't start, it just cranks but won't start. its not the battery, lights work and tried jumping it, is it the starter?

if it cranks its not the starter. it might be the crank sensor i think

Haha I've had just about every single starting problem possible. Like Themeneea stated, if it cranks, the starter is fine. The crank position sensor could be unplugged, that's one possibility. If there's been an alarm on the car, the ignition wire might've come loose. It's possible that the engine isn't getting enough spark which could indicate something as small as bad spark plugs or something as big as a fried ignition module (this is, of course, the problem I had... cost me $830 to replace the ignition module, coils, spark plugs, connectors, ignition housing :()

when you first turn the Key to On, do you hear the gas pump humming??
If when you turn the key you hear nothing. It's the fuel pump.
It's in the gas tank, so get close to it and have some one turn the key for you. If you don't hear any thing...that's it.

i hear the gas pump. where is the crank sensor? this is actually an 88 grand prix but u guys helped me out with a grand am problem before, the grand prix people aint too helpful
