Due to the overwhelming success of our 2005 Grand Am Owners Club (GAOC) calendar, we have decided to produce a 2006 calendar. As was the case with last year, we are now asking everyone to send in a single image of his or her Grand Am for possible inclusion in our upcoming publication. If after submitting a picture, you would like to change it, please feel free to send in another indicating it is a replacement and we will gladly swap but each member is only allow one image for judging.

In trying to make overall product improvements, we have decided to implement a couple changes to process.

More specifically, the method by which the submissions will be judged is slightly different compared to last year being each member will be allowed only one vote. Also, to ensure maximum quality, the following list of guidelines need to met before any submission prior to it being accepted for voting. Members who's submissions do not meet the requirements will be contacted meaning if you are not contacted, they have been accepted and will be included for consideration.

1. Image size needs to be a minimum of 2048x1536, a 3MP image, but for best results, images of 4MP (2240x1680) and above are strongly recommended. To insure that the printed product will be of high quality, we cannot accept submissions smaller than 3MP as they will show degrees of pixilation for a full size 8.5x11 calendar page.

2. Image resolution is suggested to be at least 150dpi but 72dpi is the minimum we will accept. Too far below and pixilation will result; however, due to Café Press's printing equipment going above 300dpi is not needed and no gains in quality will he had.

3. All images are to be in the sRGB color space. Café Press does not use printers that can take advantage of the Adobe RGB color space and if Adobe RGB files are presented, the output colors may not be accurate. Also, CMYK images cannot be accepted. Now hardly any digital camera except a digital SLR will shoot in the Adobe RGB or CMYK color spaces but if you are unsure of the color space, please feel free to submit a smaller size JPEG of your image for us to examine.

When submitting the image, please send it as a JPEG with minimum compression levels such as Photoshop setting 10-12. PNG format is another good way to submit but it is slightly larger than a minimum compression JPEG. Please do not send TIFFs as they are fairly large and upload can take a long time.

Deadline for calendar submissions will be 5:00 PM AST on October 24, 2005. After this date, all received images will become the property of the GAOC. Image voting will begin shortly after closing and will last for most likely a week but will be confirmed later.

Please send all images to calendar@gaownersclub.com. With your submission, please include your GAOC user name, your real name as well as year and trim level of the car. A post containing all the submissions can be viewed here (http://www.gaownersclub.com/forum/showthread.php?threadid=48458).

If you have any questions please feel free to email or PM Kelly (99grandamse), Donald (MagusXIII) or Shawn (sunrunner_pei) and they will be happy to help.

Thank you and good luck to all!!

GAOC Calendar Staff

p.s.: Please be advised that should ANY of the above details be confusing or if you are not sure whether your images will be suitable, you are encouraged to contact us as we really want all members to have the opportunity to be in the calendar so we are eager to help!!

I should rephrase the wording to state that ONLY one black GA will be accepted for the entire calendar :evil2:

I posted the exact same explanation in the section for NON-GA rides. However, it is worth posting here as it better explains why there is the 3mp size minimum...
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Since I have had a hand in the submission guidelines, I felt it best to explain the requirements. The idea here is to get a published image that looks truly photo quality and not pixellated. The prints are not going through an inkjet printer, but rather printing equipment that is not unlike what National Geographic uses for their magazine. Such equipment will capture far more detail then most home inkjets. So basically, we want our images to look like something deserving of a high end publication.

Now here is a digital representation as to why we have minimum image size needs. Here is a section of a quick pic I took of my Cav. This is a 5mp image (2592x1944) and merely cropped to the selected area.

http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y118/donaldjr1969/Misc%20web%20pix/IMG_2083-hi.jpg

Now here is a photo taken at a lesser resolution. After selecting the same area, I enlarged it to the same width (764) as the top image.

http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y118/donaldjr1969/Misc%20web%20pix/IMG_2084-lo.jpg

Notice the extreme loss in details? Some of the diagonals are stair-stepped as well. Not to mention the loss of contrast as well. Simply put, with a smaller MP rating, you have to blow up the image to achieve the same printed size while the higher resolution is already at the required size. At 3mp, there is no enlargement needed to get the 8.5x11 image size for the calendar so that is why that is our minimum size has been decided at 3mp. Those of you that use the digital zoom feature on a camera will notice how it pixellates when you zoom too much. Well, that is the same thing when you take a smaller image and enlarge it to 8.5x11.

So based on the two examples I provided, how would YOU rather have your car looking on the calendar? Surely you would want it to look like the upper image for all of those that purchase the calendar. I know I would.

HAHA ... I guess the "IT" was me :roflmfao: ... unless your computer is shrinking the photo when you are sending it, the only thing I can suggest is what Shawn stated :) ... I have run into a couple occurrences where members have emailed me their pictures but Windows shrunk the picture so it sends it quicker ... in other words, did you email the picture to me as an attachment or did you simply send a picture?! ... not sure if that was confusing or not but hopefully it made sense

Wow, the picture quality of the submissions this year is MUCH better! Hmm... I guess that is good for the site, but not for my chances at getting in!!

Is there only going to be one calendar this year? Or will there be a Winners and a Runner's Up calendar like last year?

AFAIK, we will be doing multiple calendars like last year. We can also do custom calendars like last year as well.
