I have a 1999 2.4 DOHC that is having a hesitation during acceleration issue. First let me describe the symptoms.
I have 107k miles on the car.

I have a CEL of misfire #4, when accelerating there is a hesitation up to 3000 rpm. When idling in drive there is a surging feeling while stopped. There is also a popping sound (pop, pop, pop) coming from the exhaust.

Let me tell you what I have replaced so far.
I have replaced both coils, coil housing, ignition control module, new plugs, plug boots, cam position sensor, fuel filter and I have cleaned the IAC and throttle body with no change in symptoms.

Any additional information would be appreciated. I am at my wits end and as a last resort I may have to take it to a dealer to have them diagnose it. $$$$$$

thanks

by any chance does your check engine light come on or you trac control come on?

The check engine light comes on and off, I had the code erased yesterday and it came back on and when I had it checked again it still read #4 misfire. THe Trac Control flashes off and on all the time.
I am now leaning towards injector #4 or the fuel pressure(pump).

I took it in the shop and as it turns out it was the #4 injector that was bad, also the crankshaft position sensor was replaced and the crank was retimed.

I have another issue that came up now.

When going down the road accelerating at about 50% the engine surges like fuel is geting cut off and this normally happens after the transmission shifts. Also 90% of the time the Traction light flashes and also stays on sometimes.

I know that this is not alot to go on but any assistance would be appreciated.

Thanks
