I was watching topgear last night, and they were talking about the Vauxhall VX220 and were absolutely loving it. 0-60 in 4 seconds, good stuff. At the end of the segment, they said that the VX220 would be coming out in a front mounted engine version in the US called the "Saturn Sky".
The Sky is built on the Solstice platform. But if the VX220 is the US version of the Sky and the loved the 220, then that can only mean good things for the coming Sky.

Correction, that's every major car manufacturer out there...

Thanks to GM we can now show you the real thing during its development phase (photo below). This is a brand new platform known as "Kappa," which had its origins in the Pontiac Solstice concept of two years ago. In order to make a business case for the huge cost of developing the Solstice, an inexpensive, low volume (by GM standards) 2-seat sports car, the company decided to create a platform that could be used for at least three -- and possibly more -- vehicles.
The Kappa was revealed in media presentations at the 2004 Detroit Auto Show, actually driven onto the stage as a Solstice development mule by GM's car czar Bob Lutz. He then proceeded to startle and amaze the 6500 assembled journalists by unveiling two more cars to be built on the same platform, one by America's Saturn, the other from England's Vauxhall

Is it just me, or does the Vauxhall look almost identical to the Opel speedster?
I'm clueless on Euro cars. They all start to look the same after a while.

Well same with GM's Chevy and GMC trucks. The S-10 and Sonoma are identical.

oh yea, it's all toyota, the architecture the 1.8L engine, i'm not sure who made the awd system, but i'm pretty sure the only thing pontiac is the exterior styling and parts of the interior
and something that might piss you off more is the Saturn VUE is Honda powered!! it's all so crazy

My understanding is that there is only one generation of Elise's
it just took about 5 years to get in into the U.S.

i thought the new one was an all new model because they had to make the architecture comply with us safety standards (stupid airbags and 5mph bumpers) and i know the engine is completely different, they used to use a rover engine but now it's toyota's celica motor massaged to 190hp

I think Lexus used Onstar too, I'm not sure if they still do though. They didn't call it Onstar in their cars though, they renamed it Lexus Link.
BMW gets transmissions from GM. :)

Guess Lexus isn't using it anymore then. Kind of wondered since I hadn't heard anything about it in awhile.

Since someone was talking about the Vibe, thats the same motor thats in the Vibe GT, except 180hp.

that's right, and the corolla xrs (at 170 hp) as well, but Lotus engineers also managed to pull some much needed torque out of that raspy little motor
