do light weight pullys actually increase acceleratoin?

Yes...kind of.

A light wieght pulley will decrease some rotation drag on the crank, but a underdrive pulley (one that's smaller) will give you much better gains. Not only is it much lighter, it also makes your accesories (A/C, water pump, alt) spin slower so there's less perasitic drag. What car do you have...year, engine, etc.?

PS Try doing a search before posting a thread...pulley have been talked about lots around here. The search button is your friend...don't be scared :D

the pulley on your crank will also get rid of your harmonic dampner and will cause harmonic vibrations that will damage your engine.

^not on the 3400...it's internally balanced :)

www.fastfwdperformance.com has one for the 3400 that's an underdrive pulley. It's the one I have and it rocks!

I've heard pulleys are either amazingly amazing or that they will kill your batteries and possibly the alternators?

Is this true for a 00 GAGT?

I've had mine on for about 6 months and haven't had any problems with the alternator or battery. There a few other guys around here that have it, and haven't had a problem.

On the website it says that you lose 0.1 volt off the battery voltage, while idleing, with a lot of high current drawing accesories on. Unless you have a serious sound system, I wouldn't worry about it. It's really only affected during idle anyways.

Here's a post I started with my comments on the pulley. I'd retype it, but I'm lazy...LOL

You really didn't notice that much of a differance? Of coures, as it was said, with all the mod you already have done, 5-10 hp isn't anything. All I had done was CAI and I really noticed a differance after I installed it. More pull, smoother shifts, not as much power lose with A/C on. And I went with, I think, 1.3" shorter belt.

I initially put on a 1" shorter belt and the tensioner was hitting the belt (without load!!!). Since you are using a 1.3" shorter, I would look into that.

Note that GM changed the stock belt size to a smaller one in 2001 (or maybe 2000), so you may have had the older size belt.

I still have about a half inch between the belt and tensioner. I can't remember the exact sizes now, but it works :D

I got an UD pully for my 2.4 and I can tell a slight gain in the pick up it is a good upgrade

Now on the 2.4L, is the pulley also the harmonic balancer?
