I have a 1995 GA (3.1), and I would like to put on a CAI and some sort of muffler, but there are sooo many products available out there I don't even know where to begin.

Maybe if I outlined some of my needs in a system like this, maybe someone could help me narrow down my possible choices.... so here goes.

Buget: right now, about $500 or $600 would be my maximum limit for a CAI and a muffler. Obviously, most of this money will go to my exhaust.

Purpose: to give a little more horsepower but also to improve gas mileage at highway speeds.

So? What am I looking at?

Is a 'dual' exhaust any better than single? Or is it mainly a cosmetic difference? How expensive would it be to have a dual exhaust installed?

Other than a muffler, what should I consider? Bigger pipes?

Is there anything I'm missing?

Thanks for any advice.

The dual exhaust is gonna be a look thing with a transverse (I think thats the word) mounted muffler. For a better power gain, your'e gonna want bigger tubing from the cat back, but not too big. The flowmaster 80 series seems to be pretty popular for a muffler.

You can find more info if you search, we talk about this a lot ;)

That's great, but it's also part of my problem. :P With so many different opinions it's hard to know what's what.

Also: What the hell is a cat-back? I've seen that term thrown around alot.

Does that mean what I think it means? "From the catalyitic converter, back"?

yea, all piping from the catalytic converter back is considered a catback system. before the cat there are only the downpipe and header(s).

Honestly It might be easier buyin 2 normal mufflers and connect them to new piping. Only reason i say that is becuase its a little more difficult putting a transverse style muffler on a 92-95. I also just noiced you only have an SE. In that case just get a regular muffler and bigger piping. magnaflow sounds really good, as does borla. flowmaster is also a popular choice but it is a lot raspier/louder than the others. I used to have a flowmaster on my old 95 GT 3100. W/o the cat or resonator it was loud as hell.

see my sig, selling CAIs for 99+ v6 Grand AMs, it should fit your 95 with a little modification. I'm not sure if anyone makes a CAI specially for your type of GA, the best I've seen is a WAI, basically stick a KN cone filter on the throttle body and get rid of the plastic airbox and stuff.

I had my dual exhaust made and put in for under $300. Its 2.5 inch pipping. Dual exhaust with 2 mufflers
