New guy here. Just wondering if there were any "free" mods for the 3.4L. Like an air silencer removed, or a coolant bypass, anything like that. I want to get my girlfriends car picked up a little.

... problem with free, without sounding sarcastic, is that you usually get exactly what you pay for ... the couple things you mentioned will alter the performance SLIGHTLY but most likely you would not feel it worth the effort ... for an and easy and fairly inexpensive mod, I would look towards a CAI :) ... good luck and :welcome:

if you wanted to you could take out the intake tubing...i believe that has a resonator on it

I bypassed the line on my throttle body to keep the air going in cooler. Check out this link, http://www.n-body.net/tech/index.php

/\I did that, and I will soon be purchasing a CAI from a longtime forum member, Red99GAGT. Send him a pm and there's a thread on them in the Group Buys section, right here... it's an old thread that's been revived by some of us members so dont mind the old post and 'last day payments accepted' dates.

Sorry, but free will not get you very far. Even if you found a cheap part for your car then you will probably not notice it that much. It takes a lot of money to build a car. If you want the car to perform any better than you are going to spend $$$. 99grandamse is right, I installed the Stage 3 CAI intake on my car. It was my very first mod. You don't even have to get the Stage 3. They offer Stage 1 and 2 also at Doctor Speed.

I agree you get what you pay for. To answer the original post, a few free mods are to remove the final bend from the intake resonator, to do the TB collant bypass (Assuming you don't go below freezing in winter), and possibly porting out the MAFS. None of these mods will gain much HP if any, but they're all free.

/\ I live in presently frozen michigan...

the tb coolant blockoff (I used vacum caps and small hose clamps. These leaked until I got lucky and found some good ones and tightened the clamps just right), and the intake resonator removal (take off the wheel well liner and you'll see that big ugly bendy tube) and I gained little if any, so I took out the MAF screen. That messed with my idle so I had to find a good replacement.

Overall if you want a little more balls, get a good exhaust and a KN drop in <helps with response but I won't say it does a lot for performance
