I'm just curious what the stock HP is for this engine. I've seen ranges from 150 - 170. Anybody really know?

For 94-98 3100's it's listed as 155HP @ 5200RPM and 185 lbs-ft or torque @ 4000RPM. The ouput will vary from one engine to the other within +/- 5HP. With a good intake and exhaust setup it shouldn't be too hard to reach 165-170 peak HP.
In 2000 the 3100 was upgraded with intake and exhaust parts identicle to the 3400, boosting the power to 175 HP and 195 lbs-ft of torque. These same parts are compatible with the older 3100's too.

you guys shoulda bought in 92 or 93 and gotten the 3300 instead of the 3100, the 3300 gets 5 more hp and gets the same amount of torque but at 2000rpms instead of 4000rpms. 92-95 GA's are virtually identical excep for the introduction of Airbags and the 3100 both in 94.

yadda yadda yadda........92-95's are so much better looking......anyway as another person said earlier, the 2000 parts are compatible with the 3100 in my 95. would i get the power out of the larger throttle body, cone filter, and different exhaust? i want to do a couple mods for a few more horsepower nothing major.

Anyone think it'll be worth it to get the intake from a 3400 and mount it into the 3100?
I'm doing the LIM fix so I was thinking of taking care of as many things as possible.

check out www.3400swap.com for the tb issue. i know it can be done but there are somethings that need to be done first i think.
if you guys really want some extra power but can still say they have a 3100 engine. then go get a chevy lumina apc van engine. it is the 3100 engine that is in the grand am. except it has 185hp stock. more than the 3400 stock. and sometimes i wonder if that's what i have since the guy that i bought the car from had to swap in another engine because of some ordeal with a mechanic (long story). and i don't kno how to check the engine model to see if it came out of a lumina apc or not.

yeah from what I have been told there is a noticable difference. Infact check out this. Bob did this on his '98 and was very happy with the outcome.

^^ Alright question then.
What's better flowing a UIM/LIM from say a 94-96 3400? or a 00 3100?
Which would yeild the best flow and easest install. If I'm correct a early 90s 3400 would be a direct bolt on.
I have checked 60degree V6s but their articles is missing critical pictures regarding this issue.

the parts are exactly the same except for what's written on the plenum and the way the EGR mounts. you'll need an EGR adapter from 60degreev6.com/store; the simplest solution would be to try and source manifolds from the year the adapter is made for: 96-99 3400 manifolds ( and TB ). you could block off the EGR too but you'll have a persistant SES light in that case.
if you don't swap heads as well, you'll have to grind away part of the LIM so it will clear the rocker arms. an easy way to do that would be to get to that stage, lay the LIM on top of the heads, and it will be obvious where to grind. make sure it's well cleaned of metal shavings before install!!
my butt says significant top end gains!

^^ Nothing beats the butt dyno.
I guess I'll start to junkyard dive and look for the intakes, the engine can survive another few months it's just a small coolant leak. and from the looks of the oil in my changes nothing is mixing inside the engine.
