I have a 80 series muffler on my 97 2.4 and the exhaust sounds great at low rpms idle through like 3 grand. My problem is once the exhaust warms up and I accelerate the exhaust can get raspy sometimes. I know 4cyl engines can't get a very deep sound but was wondering what would help get rid of the raspiness. I was wondering if adding a glass pack before the muffler would help any. I have straight through tips as well,so I dunno if has any effect or not. Hell I might just need a whole new damn setup! I do notice popping noises sometimes when I let off the gas, dunno if thats something with backpressure or what....I just want something deep and melow without the raspyness in quick acceleration into high rpm's

You could certainly try to use one as a resonator, but my advice would be to lose the Flowmaster in favor of a steel/glass packed muffler. Chambered mufflers have the tendancy to amplify the raspy frequencies of a 4 cyl. I noticed when cold my Borlas are raspy at about 4K RPM, but once the system gets warm it absorbs nearly all of that raspyness... but remains on all the 2.3/2.4 w/ Flows.

The popping is normal letting off the gas... that's a bit of flamage popping off near the engine that's normally muffled by a stock exhaust system.

Not off the top of my head... but I'd check both Borla's and Dynomax's websites for what configurations they offer. I'm pretty sure I've seen dual-out styles from both.

all-out best but it'll rape your wallet worse than the arabs (referring to gasoline not the people themselves just to clarify things a bit) - borla
bang for the buck- magnaflow
a step below but still good- dynomax

At $70-75 per Borla ProXS muffler via eBay, I don't see how that's much more than any other option.

how much do the ProXS mufflers usually run? On their site it says they are the valued priced mufflers

I was looking at their catbacks, some of their mufflers and tips. Very pricey, but you do get what you pay for.
