Hey everyone i have an 02 GA SE 5 speed ecotec and i put a Borla exhaust on it about 3 months ago. Its always on start up put out a small amount of greyish black smoke on start up. The fokes at borla said that this was a Oil residue used when doing the mandrel bends and that it should go away but it has yet to do so. And just 10 minets ago i went and ran my finger on the inside of the exhaust tip and it came out all black and oily. Doesn't smell of anything and isn't chunky. Its very shiney until it soaked into my finger. Does anyone know what this is?? should i be looking at my engine??? Also the check engine light has come on during the day but when i run it at night it goes off? whats the deal here?

go get a scan tool hooked up to it and it will help point you in the right direction.

could be running super rich at point, and having huge ammounts of black rich exhaust coming out leaving that, mabye TPS going bad? thinking its got a certain throttle position at times and run it rich then figure out its runnig rich then lean it out to make it perfect. OR ur o2 sensors bad, prolly ur o2

^ A Bad O2 sensor would turn the SES light on and keep it on in any OBDII vehicle if its out of specs. I would take it in get the SES light codes read. That way your not guessing.

... all GMs have a certain amount of grey/blue smoke during the first couple seconds after startup and what you are seeing may be normal ... you happen to have a picture of the residue you are describing?

ill work on the picture of it. I took it down to the local Auto parts story and the guy thinks that im running rich. Would my running rich also make my SVS light come on? something like an O2 getting coated in Carbon or something? I do have the RSM TB WAI and on her and i kept the same sensors could that maybe also be effecting the air/fuel ratio? Im gonna see about getting it scanned here today so well see but why is the SVS coming on in the day yet at like 1 AM its off?!?! ambiant Air temp?

I had a bad oil pressure sensor that never threw an ses the only way i found out about it was through an auto tap.
