Crazyest thing I have dealt with. Its my Mom's car but I try to keep it going for her. Heres the problem. Car ran great she came in from work turned the car off the next day it wouldn't start. When I tried to start it the electric fan came on. I have checked & followed all the trouble shooting guides in the Hayes Manual No luck. I replaced all vacuum hoses. The car started and I let it run then the electric fan came on the car shut down and will not start back. But the electric fan still comes on when I turn the switch on. I hear relays clicking, the ones on the fire wall. Could this be a problem with the ECM? Please Help.

When my GA had a weak battery the relays would tick, the engine wouldn't turn over but the fan thing is news to me. Check the battery, if it's bad chances are the alt is bad too. GM uses Crappy batteries that kills alts for some reason.

I checked the battery it is good. But haven't checked the alt. The engine cranks over great just will not start. And as earlier stated I turn the switch on to start the engine and the fan turns on but the engine won't start.

I think the fan comes on when the ECM goes into the back-up mode. It stops controlling the engine, turns on the "Check engine" light, richens the gas and turns the fan on.

You'll have to get the codes read to find out what is causing the problem.

I tried to check my codes but it won't let me with the fan on. The codes will not flash.
