My daughters car(2.4 L) will stall about a block away from house I have had this annoying problem for allmost a year.I have changed fuel pump, relay, plugs, boots and checked coils.Anew battery, alt allso the problem went away for most of the summer. She took it to school last week and sure enough it stalls again. It has the check engine light on now but alot of the time it will not throw a code.Any help would be appreciated.

This seems like the same problem a lot of 2.4's are having. Does it only stall this once and then it is fine?
I know mine does it, only after starting it in the morning or after it has sat for a few hours. Some people say it could be the coolant temp sensor sending the wrong readings, Plugs, and even the fuel pump as you have mentioned, but I have yet to find a for sure solution. Check out the engine specific discussion for the 2.4 (LD9) and see if any of that info is new?
Also, Welcome!

It seems to do it whenever she just jumps in and goes I was wondering if the coolant sensor may cause this.It might not do it for a few days or weeks, then it might do it everyday very sparatic. This morning she let it warm up and then took off no problems,THANKS FOR THE REPLY

Any other symptoms?
As far as I know the Coolant temp sensor can only cause problems on a cold engine and would not be the problem if it does it beyond that. Has the fuel filter been changed? I am guessing that she does not experiance any times it won't start?
What is the milage?
Also check the Battery connections as these cars have a weak charging system and the clean shiny connections are a must. The Red boot on the positive terminal can get corroded inside of that cover, and per Rick the Postimus Maximus can make for a bad connection. Cut the red cover off of the connection and clean it up, you can purchase an aftermarket boot to put in it's place.
Hope this is helpful, also do you keep up on the regular maintenance?

Yes on the regular maintnance,I bought it at 90k miles has about 95k on it now.I noticed in the Haynes book it says it could be a TCC solonoid in the trans but it is not covered in the book I got it says it is in the trans axle overhaul manual.Other wise it runs great this prob started like 1month after we bought it.I haven't checked the starter end of cables but have on the top side.New filter about 3k ago.Its weird cause it quits her on the same corner allmost everytime.

So it is an auto, well......
That can be the TCC failing. I wasn't aware you had an automatic. Use the search button at the top and look for that topic, I don't know didlly.
Sorry!

I dunno how accurate this might be,
but i think i read somewhere that if you replace your ECU it will help with such problems.

ill see if i can find out where i read it

Did you search?
I won't even try to elaborate as I don't know anything about the TCC Solenoid.
Maybe I'll learn how to post links sometime, but I don't know how right now. You will find an abundance of info on this and other stuff.

ok i have a 97 gt with of course the 2.4L, my car has been doing the same thing for sometime. i got a job at a garage with a good mechanic. he claims that it is fuel filter, dirty injectors, fuel pump or all. he gave me a can of 44k a week ago. i put it in my tank and the car wanted to stall at times the first couple of days, then it stopped. i also noticed when i hopped in my car and jsut went real quick, it would stall. get the can of 44k you can get it at napa its good stuff it is about $20 range. this was not a problem until i had my water pump and coil cover replaced...go figure

2.4 gt? didnt know they existed. um it sounds to my like u have weak compression and the rings dont seal good enough tell its warm or clogged injectors or fuel filter sence the car is in open loop it has a predeturmaned fuel rate which is not enough cause its clogged. when it goes in closed loop the o2 sensors see this and increase the length of time the injectors open to compensate for the problem.
