View Full Version : hesitation during all gears

I recently posted a problem regarding a TPS sensor and knock sensor. I changed both with little resolve. The car started and idled fine until touching the gas peddle. As soon as I did, the car revved high and the service engine light came on. When letting off the gas, the light went off.
Over the weekend, I decided to take out the TPS and reinstall the original sensor. It turns out that the new after-market sensor had a different pattern for the two drills holes. It did not allow for the sensor to be rotated slightly during install, so the throttle plate was held open 5 degrees. This is why the car went insane after touching the gas. The original sensor allowed for a slight rotation thus allowing the throttle plate to shut.
Now, the pinging has stopped thanks to the knock sensor, but the car jerks and hesitates slightly during acceleration through the gears. It very similiar to running out of gas. There is a very brief loss of power, and the power will return to normal 1 second later. It will do this randomly while driving, and it is very irritating.
Does anyone have any suggestions? Should I go to the dealer and buy the TPS with the same hole pattern, or should I have the coil tower tested. I've gone through coils and towers in the past, and i seem to remember them dieing out very quickly. Right now, I think I could drive the car across country with the jerky hesitation. With past coil and tower problems, I couldn't even drive out the drive way.
Could this be coils, tower, TPS, or something else. I still have the code 22 in the computer. Also, I have the white coil tower. I read that Autozone can test them.
I ask to avoid the trial and error cost associated with buying parts. Autozone took back the TPS, but GM surely won't take back any parts. Perhaps I will just go to a scrap yard and buy the coils and TPS for $15.00.
