Well, I've pulled out my carpet and I have some leaks in my firewall.

I posted about it here: GAOC thread. (http://www.gaownersclub.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=49157)

What kind of sealant will hold up well to water, heat, and cold? I don't want to go through all the trouble of putting it in only to have it come off a few months down the road from now.

Thanks.

Tyler

I had the exact same problem...

a hole behind the glovebox on the passengers side.

goto canadian tire and spend $20 on the "Bondo fiberglass repair kit" thats what i used, 3 layers of and it holds tight no leaks.

If it's a large hole or rusted-out area, a fiberglass repair is the best thing.

If it's only a small hole, use RTV (Room Temperature Vulcanizing) Silicone from the auto parts store.
Get stuff that specifically states it's resistant to oil.
All silicone sealants are resistant to water and underhood temperatures.
Many are NOT resistant to the sun's UV rays, but that's of no concern for this application.

GE, 3M and Dow are the major manufacturers of silicone sealants.

Make sure the metal isn't rusty, and that there's no dirt, grime, grease, or loose paint on the metal.

Good luck,
-Rick

Well, it looks as if the carpet under-liner is too rotten to put back in.

I've been looking around on Google, but I can't locate a replacement or get a quote. Is it OK to use regular carpet under-liner and shape it to the car?
