I have a 91 grand am gray with a nice sunroof and tech 4 engine that has a new alternator, starter, battery, flowmaster cat back exhaust system, aquatred 3's on it, and i was letting the car sit for a while after the starter went for a second time (rebuilt), but i was driving the car and it just died on me and i can't get any power at all, i know it's something simple, probably just a battery wire that's shorting, any ideas?

the only thing that can make your car shut off is lack of spark or fuel. Do you have gas? <---- sorry have to ask.
first, do you have dash lights and dome lights, if you do then you have juice from the battery.
second, does the car crank over, if so look at step 5, if not examine your starter connections. with a test light to see if you have juice.
if you have no juice, tighten the connections on the starter and the turn the key does it crank now? if not have your starter tested again, i had a rebuild last 7 days once.
step 4 the most likely problem, turn the key to the on position and listen for a humming noise from the gas tank, (fuel pump priming). if you hear the buzzing then you most likely have fuel. if you hear the buzzing continue to step 5.
step 5) your car has primed the fuel pump, and is cranking over but not starting, take off the air cleaner, and have someone crank the car to see if fuel is coming from the injector. If no fuel is coming out, then you need to inspect the fuel system.
the only other thing i could think of is a bad coil pack/modual, let me know what you find, and email me at p8ntman24@hotmail.com if you need more help. I think your alternator is bad and you ran out of juice driving down the road, now your battery is too dead to start the car.

My stepmom had the same problem with her 99 Cougar. She paniced and had it towed to a shop. She paid $75 for a diagnotstic and a fuse. Please say you checked the fuses? you didn't mention it earlier.

I popped a different battery in the car and it started up fine, i have had the problem that it is having before.....kinda odd, listen to this, the alternator is charging at in the range of 12.0 - 12.6 volts, not up to 13.6 volts like it's supposed to. So i can run the car perfect in daytime because i don't have any extra peripherals on, ie lights....so i just gotta pick up a new alternator!!! I saw one from autozone for 130, duralast gold, figured i'd get that, so i don't have to worry about getting a POS which will go down again later.....Thanks for the help guys
PS I checked the fuses first!
