Hello people,

I've just got a 1997 Grand Am a couple of weeks ago at an auction. Runs like a charm so far, however there is one problem which is bugging me. It looks like previous owner had quite a few stickers all over the dashboard, which were removed at some point. They left a nasty looking residue on it in quite a few places. Looks like some kind of rubber glue which has dried solid, or something like that. I have tried ordinary house cleaners and Goo Gone on it, with little success. I would appreciate any ideas on how to get rid of this tough mess.

Goo Gone should work, just need to give it some time to soak in. Anything harsher will likely damage the interior materials. Warming the area up with a hair dryer first might help as well, just be VERY careful not to overheat the area.

yeah goo gone should work, let it soak for about 10-15 mins then go at it

If all else fails, put a little carb cleaner on a rag and wipe it vigerously. As soon as it comes off, put on some armor- all to keep the color from fading.

Get some stuff called "Sticker Shock" that will work :D

Thanks for all the responses. Today I've tried cleaning off one of the spots using Goo Gone, nail polish remover and what not... After lots of effort it was finally gone, but it looks like this stuff has reacted with the surface somehow, so it still left dark stains on it. Given the amount of the spots, the effort required to clean off one of them and the final result it is more economical just to get another dashboard at the salvage yard somewhere :-).

You could always take it out and paint it too :D

I'd consider getting a Dashmat (http://www.dashmat.com).
