With the weather warming up, just want to make sure that everyone remembers to check their tire pressure, as with the warner weather, your tire pressure will shoot up.

ok, ive learned a great deal about my car over these forums, but ive never knew what this tire pressure is about...how do you know what the pressure is supposed to be at?

look at the side wall of your tires.. typical run of the mill are usually 35 PSI max. if we take that at least for this example, this is how it works. I know there are ways that people (like shawn) will say differently, but this is the easiest. Just take that maximum PSI, and subtract 5PSI. That is what your cold inflation pressure is. When you drive, your tires warm up, and the air inside does, and the pressure will rise, roughly 5 PSI max.. So that is a margin to allow for expansion.

I think that makes sense..

Now the reason that I'm mentioning pressure in the first place, is that when the air warms up, ofcourse the tire pressure will also go up. I'm not sure what the ratio is, but mine change approx 10 PSI or so from cold winter to warm summer.

Just a heads up!

I was always under the impression that the pressure depends on the vehicle and not the tire. On the plate on the door jamb it has recommended inflation pressures. Same with the owner's manual for my car. It says 30PSI cold and add 4 PSI when hot.

hmm.. I'm not totally sure on that.. I think it is supposed to be the same if you get the right tires for the car.. but I know performance tires will be different than all seasons... so I would definately not go over what the tire says...

This is 100% correct.

Recommend tire pressure is typically located in the door jam.
Also can be found in your owners manual.
On that note for a car around the weight of a GA, anywhere around or near 32psi is suitable.

... I agree, as long as you are talking the same 'factory sized' tire :)

Excellent point my friend. My 18's need 45 psi. It's like riding on cement tires but boy do those babies grip.:bite:

Why do 18's need 45 PSI? Won't they wear faster in the center?

Thats just the recommended pressure. They are low profile and have barely a sidewall. If you run low psi you can tweak a wheel.
