I just wanted to let you guys know that I spoke with Lotek and GrandRaverMC regarding the A Pillar pod for 96-98 Grand Ams(I think its actually 92-98 if some one could confirm that I would appreciate it) I will become the project leader if there is enough interest. We would need 20 pre-orders, which would be collected by me and sent to Lotek when all 20 have been recieved. Price will be approximately 40 to 60 dollars, and approximate project timeline will be 9 weeks. It will be a three gauge pillar pod. The actual price will be determined when I send them my A pillar, which wont happen until I know that 20 people are interested. If you are insterested(definitely), please reply with your name and email to this thread. Thanks a lot....hopefully we will be able to get this off the ground. BTW, I have this post on several forums now, so you would only need to reply on one of the forums. I will create a distribution list, and email you guys when I know 20 ppl are interested.

I wouldnt mind having one. But no offense I dont send my money to anyone I dont know unless its a company. I will wait till it comes out. if not Ill just do my custom gauge piller I was gonna do. Good luck with that.

I realize that some of you guys wouldnt wanna send the money to me, so I am trying to arrange direct payment to Lotek, which I believe they said they could do. They just wont set up a preorder page....we eould have to send the money to them. I'd rather not handle the money anyway. This is just to establish interest. I am creating a e mail distribution list with everyone thats interested, and I'll email you all at once when 20 ppl are interested with the payment details. I will just have it go directly to Lotek, but the project wont start till they are paid.

you know im in... shamplayer69@aol.com
can someone actually explain to me what this is...i know how it looks like and i like the look of it thats why i want it..but i dont know anything else about...like how it installs..what it does...can someone go into detail and explain, thanks

it is just a plastic bezel that holds three gauges..any of which you choose that either screws into your existing a piller or replaces it completely...it has no function on its own. So if you just install the pillar without the gauges you will have a piller with three wholes in it.

Ok i May want one of these. I have a couple questions.
1. How big are the holes in the pod?
2. Would it be possible for me to fit one of those small tachometers in one? I don't have a tach on my cluster and this would just be easier.
3. It has three holes right? So i could put the tach, the oil pressure, and the volts in it right?
Thanks for the answer to any of these questions.

Ok....its a three gauge pillar pod...and it will replace the entire A Pillar It will also be color matched to the interior, and the gauge holes will be 2 1/16" There are three available holes and I believe that some companies make 2 1/16" tachometers, but I can't confirm that. If you guys wanna see what it looks like go to pfyc.com, its the same as the one for the 99+ GAs, just made for our years. Installation of the pillar is easy, just remove the old and install the new one.

Just a thought, but does lotek know that our a piller goes all the way around the door?

They don't know yet...but that shouldn't give them any problems, and it shouldn't affect the price range. I could tell them over the phone, but its kinda pointless. The best thing to do is let them deal with it when I send them mine.

Ok...I still don't have a definite answer regarding whether it is the same for 92-98, but I took some pics of my pillar for you guys to see. It does look exactly identical to the one in my old 94 GA. I did come across one more concern however. Due to the design of our pillars, they might be different for coupes and sedans. I was hoping someone could check this out for me. In my pics I circled two points. In my car, a sedan, the distance between those two points is approximately 50 inches. Could someone with a coupe please measure this distance and respond. If it is different, I will contact Lotek and let them know....it shouldn't be a problem I hope since it would be the same pillar just a little longer...

was that a diagnol line straight from one point to the other or was it keeping the tape measure stuck on the thing for the distance?

It was keeping it flush with the plastic all the way around.

Hi guys....just to give you guys an update, there are 15 people total including me insterested so far, and we need 20 people total. Also, we still havent resolved the 92-98 compatability issue, and I'm waiting on measurements from a coupe to check coupe/sedan compatibility as well. Ok guys.....ttyl

i believe that coupe and sedan will have to be different...just visualize the top part of the piece that runs all the way to behind the seat and to the middle pillar in a sedan and to the rear window in a coupe...two different sizes...

oh wow, that's wierd. i just measured my 97 GAGT 2 door coupe, and i came up with 92 inches dudes..... see, the panel deal starts down below my interior fuse box, and goes up, over the window, back to the corner of the door, then down to almost the floor....there's no crack on mine at the corner like on your sedan, it continues back down....i dont know if someone else can confirm this i wouldnt feel so bad...but the pod idea sounds cool, i just wouldnt have a clue how to install it myself. im not much for car's quite yet, but im learning lol.
p.s. i was flush the whole way...

i dont think that this is going to happen at all to much waiting and too many ifs and different models to aco**** for.
BigE22
05-23-2003, 08:40 AM
Yeah....I'm kind of losing hope myself. We still don't have quite enough people, and the variations between models are really killing us....If we do get up to 20 people, I will see what lotek will do for us, but I don't think they are gonna be willing to make 2 different models for 20 people.

05-28-2003, 06:43 PM
maybe instead of making 2 different pods, they can make a "universal" pod, that will work on 92 and up? If nobody know for sure what the different between the years are, then they are close enough to not matter.
The people that only want a 2 hole pod, just put a peice of round plastic with a pontiac symbol over the middle hole, or a small clock...

06-30-2003, 12:45 PM
here's an idea......
Why don't they produce a pod like they make for the 99 and up models where it only goes up to the top of the door jam. Then when you get it you cut off the old part of the A-pillar and put the new piece in its place. It should have a lip at the top to cover up where you cut. That way it could be a universal for 92-98 cars sedan or coupe.
Let me know what you think of that Idea.

Not to Hijack the thread, but this is sort of on topic..... AED is in the works for a custom gauge pod set. 99+ custom pods have already been made and are shipping as we speak.... These will not go on your a-pillar, these are bad ass IMHO they go around the dash. THey might now be for everyone, but if you like to be different they will be right up your alley. ANd decently priced as well. Roughly $80-90 for regular plasctic ons, and Actual carbon fiber ones will also be made for a bit more. I will get you more info as this develops.

Yes I meant to say they have already made the 99+ pods and are currently finishing up the design on the 98's.. And the tails should "HOPEFULLY" ship early august.

Just so you guys know the 92-98 A Pillar is the same. I can prove that if you like. For One, I put a 1998 A-pillar on the driver side of my 95 GA. Plus I have a set of custom molded dual pods that I tested to see if they fit on my friends 96 GT.
With that in mind I also want to let you guys know that someone told me Mitsubishi 3000 GT's are rumored to be a direct fit for dual pillar mounts. If not I can custom make dual pillar mounts for you guys as I made my own.
If someone is seriously intrested in doing this I could sponsor a project and discount a pair of guages and an A-pillar to test fit the Mitsubishi 3000GT's pillar. If that works I might be willing to do a group buy for you guys as well.

Just use a Rustangs gauge pod. Little heating and shaping and fits perfect.:D
