exhaust adaptor

I got a 2.25 ID and 2.25 OD muffler and the size of the exhaust pipe is 2inchs. should I get a exhaust adaptor that's 2 ID and 2.25 OD,if I'm suppose to go larger, maybe a 2.25 ID and 2.50 OD?

no the 2.5 adapter will not fit and you will have a leaky exhaust thats trying to make up 1/4 in on both sides just get and adapter made for that.
or have a muffler shop expand the pipe to just over 2.25 and clamp the muffler right in
