this is probably a dumb question, but i dont care. Whats the difference between the monsoon and the regular stock CD player? The pic of the monsoon in the owners manual looks just like mine, but mine doesnt say monsoon and doesn't say it when you turn it on, so i dont know if i have it or not? thank you for putting up with my ignorance.

Monsoon has the amp in the trunk. And IMHO it sounds a lot better :)

Thats part of the reason i am so confused, mine sounds pretty awesome and the bass is pretty darn impressive. maybe it just sounds so good to me b/c my old cars was shitty. either way, i heard you have to lift the rug or something up and its on the left in the trunk, so i will look, but i doubt it will be there. Plus, in the monsoon, where are the 8 speakers?

the 8 speakers include the tweeters. u dont have the monsoon if it dont say so. the 99 and 00 gts came with premium sound and had amps hooked up to only the back speakers but i dont think pushed as much power. the monsoon is amped to all the speakers, not just the back ones. it also says monsoon on the amp too.

oh yeh, definitly! i was surprised it wasn't a monsoon and sounded so good. it doesnt sound GREAT, but for stock, it's amazing. I have a question about the security feature, if i take out the stock head unit, put in my after market one and decide i dont like it, will i have to unlock or whatever the stock head unit?

The way Theftlock works is that you set a code for the deck and then if it loses battery power (i.e. if the battery is disconnected or the stereo is removed) you have to enter the code again for it to work.

Theftlock is only active if the light blinks after you turn the car off and the radio is off (after the retained accessory power goes off). If that light doesn't blink then it isn't active and you don't have to worry. You can set a code and have it work if you want but not much point as I don't think many factory stereos get stolen (unless you live somewhere with a high theft rate).

If the light does blink then either you set the code already (and should know it) or someone else (i.e. previous owner) set the code and you should know what it is before disconnecting the stereo or disconnecting the battery. Otherwise it will be locked when you re-connect it. There are some master/override codes, however, that you might find here or be able to get from a dealership in case you get locked out and can't get it to work again.

weird the light on my radio flashed, but my radio never locked. But the radio in the 97, the light only flashes when theftlock is turned on.
